  1. I use aMule for files hard to find on web pages or other p2p (for example osprey books). DC++ for music and movies. It's not true that you can't download anything if you don't have big sharesize. I have 5 GB of share files and it's enough for me.
  2. I don't know how to make console transparent in Window Maker. I choose schema->transparent and nothing happens. How should I change it?
  3. Why people are choosing windows?I think that there are many reasons.1. Games - people think that you can;t play games on linux. Some games have their lunux version's and there is many games that you can play under winex. 2. Hardware - linux is still not so popular and hardware sometimes don't have driver's for linux so people must wait for some not official drivers.3. Configuration - it's a myth. Linux is configured after installation and generally you don't have to chcnge many things. After installing linux I have allmost all useful applications installed and after installing windows I must spend much time to install all this stuff.4. People don;t know what linux really is. If they even heard about it they think that it's very hard in using. Besides when someone is buying new comp. there is windows installed in most cases..
  4. I think I'll choose Dabian, Slackware or Gentoo. I was working on RedHat 6.1 a few years ago cause I was doing some PHP things. Now I've installed Mandake 9.1 cause I had it on CD's. But I don't like it... I don't think that using Gntoo/Debian/Slackwere would be hard since I know C and I worked on RedHat which was easy. Running it only under console thaught me many things. If you want to learn something run your Linux without X and it try to configure everything without this stupid wizards (this mandrake druids and wizards are reeeeaaaallllllyyyyy useless). Drogomir
  5. If ping is working between both machines there is no problem in configuring samba. Generally configuration after install is good, but you must do some to allow windows user to log into linux samba. Create user on your linux system. After that when you're logging in (windows) you must enter username and passwrd of this user in linux. If you don't do that you won't have acces into samba files. Under linux just type smb:/ or something like that in your browser (try to find the proper command in man pages if smb:/ doesn't work).
  6. I'm wondering what distributions of Linux do you like most. Please make some comments on distribution you like so everybody will know its adventagies.
  7. Using VMware or winex you can play many games on Linux. Some guys made tests of quake III under wine and it run faster than under windows .
  8. I don't like Partition Maqic cause I had some situations when it couldn't partition some discs and there were errors... Linux installers have very good partitions programs. I've never had problems with it.
  9. Yes, but definetely not Mandrake .
  10. Linux is now user friendly too. Install Mandrake and you will see. It has RPM's, easy installation and almost all applications you need in installation discs. Some peple say that installing programs is hard but I'm asking why? You just type ./configure make make install and in most cases it works. It's easy, just try...
  11. Question was about system for server. I think that Mandrake and Redhat aren't good systems for server. If you want secured and stable server choose FreeBSD, SuSe or Unix (it's not free, but Windows neither).
  12. Have you tried put *.*. It should upload all files in directory. I can't check this now but something like this above should work.
  13. I know about that and I realised it when I learnt Pascal in 1-2 days cause I must have only know syntax (is this good word? I'm not english speaking). That what I say above was reffered to syntax like loops, if, case and other stuff. There is: for(i=0;i<100;i++) and almost the same for javascript, java, php (the chcange is in $ before var). When I was rewriting code from C++ to Java I had to chcange only functions' names and a few other things in code and it worked . Learning programming in some pseudocode is very good, cause then you can learn any language in short time.
  14. Recently I have realised that after playing my favourite games several times It is becoming routine. And I downloaded some mods. What do you thinks of that kind of expansions? There is many good mods espacially for RPG games: Fallout Tactics, Baldur's Gate I & II, Diablo I & II. Search the web and you will enjoy many games that you found boring after plaing 10 times .
  15. Generally movie is much, much wose than the book. It's good, but everybody should read the book first.
  16. For me Mandrake, RedHat and other "user friendly" distributions are good for newbies and are easy to install and us.
  17. For me NFS Porshe was better but Underground is good to. The minus of this game is fact that it is more arcade. But still playing it is great fun .
  18. In Delphi vs C++ battle there is no winner. Some years ago when there was no Delphi and other object languages C was faster than Pascal and proffesional programmers used it. Now when speed is the same everybody choose language which he likes better.
  19. Thanks. I've installed Mandrake 9.2 on this computer. And it's running faster than windows . I want to use it for vbrowsing the web and using p2p and connection sharing. Maybe win98 is better but when I was using it I had to fight with viruses, it was crashing all the time and it was slow. I don't have this problems under Linux and it's really good. I don't understand why everyone says that linux is better only for servers. Now it's really easy to use. Linux rulez....
  20. My favourite language is C/C++ cause it was my first language. If you know C you can easily learn PHP, JAVA, JAVASCRIPT, C# which are very similar in writing. Unix/Linux systems are written in C. Almost all commercial games are written in C too.
  21. That's one of reasons of using Linux . I have more than 10-15 viruses on my computer after few days of running Win98. Linux rulez
  22. I'm wondering if Mandrake 9.2 with X can be used on slow machine like: Pentium 350, 64mb ram, 2mb graphic card. I don't want to install any servers (ssh maybe).
  23. I like RedHat, but now I'm isntalling Mandrake on the second comp cause I don't have RH. These distributions are good and easy to use.
