Certain CPUs are locked, they don't support XP... and it's very much fun trying to unlock the CPUs to make them allow the very fast XP to be installed. Usually it's a matter of finding the right drivers... Good thing Windows 7 drivers usually work on XP, and vice versa... though Vista is another story.

(maybe in the ToS?)Another question though, about the hosting plan:Are the features on the Logic Plan the same as those on the Lifetime Plan? Namely, if my PHP script (which is not a proxy, but does require CURL at some points, which is what all PHP proxies usually work off) works on the Logic Plan, will it also work on the Lifetime Plan? Because I do not wish to shell out $49 for the lifetime plan only to find out that my script in fact does not work there. The problem is actually on line 47: you open the "INSERT INTO..." with a double quote, but close it with a single quote. And the PHP interpreter thinks the single quote is a part of the string started at the beginning, and that that string is continuing onto line 48... now when you finally have a double string, "text", it thinks that's where the string ends, and it doesn't know what to do with the line that says "text", since you would need a closing parentheses of the sprintf, or a comma for the next parameter, before you can make any new assertions like that: and that's why you get that error. Oh, and just for the future, to make sure you don't make the same mistake again, you should've been able to figure all this out simply by looking at the fact that the GetSQLValueString is green instead of black in the code parser previewer on this forum.

It's not as much a function of the laptop, as it is a matter of the fans you have. For instance, my brother installed a flash hard drive on his computer, installed some pretty advanced heat sinks on his computer, removed all the fans, and now it is working without any sound at all! And actually, he now did it to my computer because I complained that the computer noise was distracting me. So that's something you can do to any computer if you know what you're doing.

Wow, that's pretty nice. I thought, well, what can you do with paint? Apparently more than I thought, since I was captivated the whole time, even until the end. Oh, and as far as doing the CTRL-+ thing, if your image is small enough, you can zoom to how you need it, and then do ALT+PrintScreen... I know that's not the optimum alternative, but if you cannot do it otherwise, I guess you have to do it like that. Also: Which version of Windows are you using? Doesn't seem to work in Windows 7...

Wow, apparently I'm not the only one who feels that way about Ubuntu because of the unity thing... I was having a hard time convincing my brother to stop using it. And yes, once I decided to look into what's the better alternative, I came down to the same type of choice (don't remember what my alternatives were). In the end, Mint ended up better because, unlike the other acceptable alternatives, it was actively developed. And for the other question, I also would agree that KDE is better for the beginning user.

That is certainly true, and definitely XP (I have SP1) boots a *lot* faster than Windows 7 (even the pre-SP). The point is, if you want fast boot time, you don't overload your computer with junk you do not need. For example, I still have SP1, and most of the software I run does just fine. If I need some feature (like WPA), I install the appropriate KB. One trick is to get Office 2007, which technically requires SP2, to work. To do that, you need to get SP2, put in Office, and uninstall SP2. Office stays, and works just fine. Once again, if we only compare similar features, XP not only does quite a bit better, but also it has a lot more customizable features. If MicroSoft made the source code of XP SP1 publically available, I think it's possible to take Windows XP quite a bit farther than Windows 7. Just you wait until Windows 8 comes out...

Guys,I wanted to compile the Exokernel, the operating system developed by MIT guys, in order to adapt it to get efficient computing. However, even after I downloaded all the software that they had and bought the necessary hardware, I still get a lot of problems getting it to work. I tried several different emulators (that was one of the problems), and I still have it get stuck while compiling. There were maybe 8 different problems that I already had to fix, and I still cannot get it to compile. Would anyone here be able to help me figure out solutions to these problems as they arise? Just wondering.-Al.

From experience, I've tried many different programs, and GetDataBack seems to be the most reliable undeleter. As long as data has not been overwritten, GetDataBack tends to be the best at finding the deleted data and putting it back into a file.

What? Really? This is ugly? Not meaning to boast, but by your standards the web sites I used to design would be a lot uglier than that. But let's just say, it was like that, plus fixedsys font (for those of you who know what that's like), plus strict HTML tables, &c. It's just too bad that they are no longer online, but hidden in the stacks somewhere, so I can't demonstrate to you.

Take a look at the list on http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. This is precisely where I found Xisto, because I needed a webhost that can do certain functions, but not require activity more often than once every 90 days or so. I spent the night looking for one, and was having a hard time finding one. Until way toward the bottom, I ran into Xisto. I still am waiting for my account to link to the Xisto HelpDesk, so I cannot say that Xisto for sure does what I would like for it to, but looking at the comments, I sure hope that is the case.

Wow, I am really surprised to see so many bad reviews. I've had several hosting companies over the years, and by far 000webhost has been the best one I've had. I can do anything I like with PHP, cron jobs, even e-mail myself. The reason I am switching is because one of my scripts does not work there, since P3P is required. I am still waiting for the Xisto to link to my account; if Xisto is half as good as they claim, maybe I will switch the rest of my service as well...

Yeah, it's unfortunate that FaceBook is so into implementing new features and new designs these days, that it simply overlooks how much it needs to scrutinize its existing applications. There's just so many holes in its security nowadays, but FaceBook is not alone in this. This seems to be the trend now.
