Interesting... I guess this is just a way of the team working on google earth trying to keep up with the team making google maps... They had images of the moon way before this came out. It wasn't waving... what on earth are you talking about?

When I first read this thread I though of something huge. Universe was the first thing to come to mind, but unfortunately hpuniverse.com is taken, which was going to be my suggestion and now I am out of ideas. I liked liam's "Harry Potter world" if that isn't taken by another roll playing site...

The Earth Is Really Flat Its a conspiracy
galexcd replied to galexcd's topic in Science and Technology
Just a quick update for all of you trappers. I have met up with galahad. We can't post our current position for the government is on our tail. I acquired an internet connection with a dial-up modem I hooked up to a satellite phone. All I can say is that we have already infiltrated one of the bases and we are getting close to another one. It won't be long until the entire world knows. We are getting alot of interference on out gps and compass, they have become practically useless. We think this is the way the government is keeping ships away from the ice wall. We are using the stars to find our way. After we infiltrate this base we are tracking we will report back here. -
Well I don't think it actually has a use, it just would be a super cool toy. I suppose if you were a criminal or a robber a flashlight with one of these "dark bulbs" would be incredibly useful...

Ok... Now before everybody thinks I'm defending runescape, I'm going to say it right out that I think its really boring, and yes people who are addicted to it and keep telling me to play it are quite annoying but NOT NEARLY AS ANNOYING AS PEOPLE WHO WONT SHUT UP ABOUT HOW BAD IT IS... Yes james, I am referring to you. As a game programmer myself, I actually respect the creators of runescape for making such an advanced game in such a primitive language. The people who won't shut up about how much they hate it probably haven't coded a day in their life. They don't understand how difficult it is for java to even load data from a server which jagex (the creators of runescape) managed to get down very well. But going back to my first statement, I am not a fan of runescpae. I think it is pretty boring. And I think the people who pay for the membership of that game have never played a real fun game in their lives. So I've got a proposition that should make everyone happy: (1) People who like runescape, don't bug all your friends about it. Runescape has plenty of players already that you can play with. (2) People who don't like runescape just shut up about it. Don't tell others how horrible it is, don't brag about how you are so cool because you DON'T play it, and defiantly don't make an entire topic on it in a forum somewhere... That is all. Runescape is java, not javascript, by the way... And yes, coding in java is the equivalent to being beaten by a club covered in barbed wire and anthrax.

Php Email Validation A PHP data validation class with many functions
galexcd replied to sonesay's topic in Programming
Wow this is extremely interesting. If I ever had to validate an email address in the past I would just send them a verification email with some kind of link in it but this seems much more user friendly. I'm not sure if it would work all the time. I am no expert at servers but I would think that some servers might not allow you to check like this. -
So anyway ages ago there was this flash game called Relief Racer that I used to love. I still have yet to find a better flash game than that. It was this game where you were a pill and you had to fly through a human body to get to the source of the pain. From what I remember the body was extremely complex. It had all the major organs and everything was connected with a network of blood vessels. So anyway I was reminded of it a few days ago and realized that the website it used to be on reliefracer.com, now redirects to some dumb snowboarding game. I was wondering if anybody at least remembers this game, and if anybody managed to save the swf?

Also I just thought of another problem with the optimus OLED, what if you wanted to clean the space behind your keys on your keyboard? This area gets very dirty, and most keyboards let you pop the keys right out but I wouldn't think that the LED one would... or would it? Would each key just sort of plug into the base? I think this guy is training for the 2032 olympics: "Shortest forum posting". He's pretty good, he might win!

Good Flash Demo watch this and contribute to a worthy cause, too
galexcd replied to jlhaslip's topic in General Discussion
Woah, awesome find haslip. That animation is pretty neat. I do think it would be a bit more impressive if the counter of coins inserted updated in real time so when sombody else inserted a coin you would see it increasing. -
Yes of course you can... I use nested tables for a lot of stuff. Not a big fan of div layers and I believe css should be for setting colors and styles and stuff not actually constructing the whole template with it. I would use colspan and rowspan because that way i would be able to do everything I could do with a nested table except do it all with one table, but I've found firefox gets very confused when you get a little too excited with it. Almost all of my layouts that i try to do with one table with the help of colspan and rowspan looks great in safari, camino, and *gulp* (as much as I hate to say it) IE, but firefox messes them all up. Sigh, I'm still on the search for the perfect browser...

File Checker-how To Check File Whith Html Through Html?
galexcd replied to mahirharoon's topic in Programming
You can tell php to hide errors such as this if you put an at symbol (@) before the function returning the error. i.e. if(@file_exists($filename)){ -
Delete Problem With Id Id as auto_increment, and identifier for a row
galexcd replied to serialmike's topic in Programming
There is only one fix that I can think of that doesn't require manually relabeling every row, but it is sloppy and I do not recommend it. If you have your sql query delete the ID column and remake it with auto_increment it will relabel every row properly. But like I said it is very sloppy and I do not recommend it because if you have many rows and you you delete a column that other pages may need and remake it it may cause some errors if somebody else is loading another page at exactly the right time. -
Well I don't exactly want to register a domain name for this and both of your solutions seem to require this. This is only so when I take my laptop to my university I can access the network drive plugged into my router via FTP. I can access this by typing in http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/, but the problem is I have a dynamic IP address that likes to randomly change every other day and it makes it very difficult to keep track of. By the way @ truefusion, I'm running a mac, but I also dual boot ubuntu. But I would never run that horrid OS that shall not be mentioned, that you assumed I had.

Yes I want to get my network IP when I am not on my home network. I'm not quite sure you linked the right thing for your desktop widget because it seems to be a theme?
-
I'm not much of a network guy, so I'm asking for help from all of you Xisto techies... I've got a network drive that can be accessed via ftp over the web but the only problem is I've got a dynamic IP address. At first I would just bookmark my IP address every day when I came home with my laptop but is there an easier way of getting that IP address? Thanks

What sonesay's link does is generate a form that basically opens whatever the user's default mail program is and fills in some of the data for them. If you want to automatically send a message without having the user send the message from his or her own email address you need php.
-
My script does the same thing but it is more simple and runs faster, and is not missing any brackets... If you really have a use for this I suggest you use mine unless you like unnessisarily long code...
-
It basically echos out whatever you type into the text box. Not really that complex. I guess its good if you are working on an html site and want instant results to what it will look like.
-
Try adding this to your span tag: <span id='general_total' style="display:inline">0</span>(either change the quotes to single quotes or escape them out if you are going to use that echo statement) I hope this fixes it
-
You DO realize that you cant execute php code with echo right? There is no reason to parse that out... much simpler: <?phpif(isset($_POST['code'])) echo $_POST['code'];else{?><form method="post"><textarea cols=XX rows=XX name="code"><html><head><title></title></head><body></body></html></textarea><input type="submit" /></form><?php } ?>

A Very Very Happy Birthday To Our Dearest Opaque
galexcd replied to miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG's topic in General Discussion
I already posted this on Xisto, but I forgot about the Xisto community. I rarely come here. So anyway even though its way past opaque's b-day you can still sign his e-card here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ -
Well I think some php experience is necessary here. Here is what I would do: First, add a new variable to sql called credits or something to the users table. Then find the place in your forums where the post is actually being inserted into sql, and come up with some algo that calculates amount of credits based on how many characters. (I'd suggest strlen($string)/10), and have that added to the users sql row. Alright and finaly just add some code to have the users amount of credits show up on the forum main page. You can't view the credit system in the page source... Thats php.... *alex resists his temptation of blurting out "duh" in all caps*
