One of the things that fascinates me more than anything is the idea of Black Holes. why bring up a black hole in this topic? well its quite simple really - a black hole can bend light! The gravity of a black hole is soooo strong that even light cannot escape it.SInce physicists think that time and light are related it would be reasonable to suspect that the gravity of a black hole is so strong that it might even be able to bend time. The actual definition of what time is, is rather sketchy. When people talk about time they often are actually referring to how we as humans keep track of time. But what is time really? The dictionary says that time is basically the indefinite continued progress of existence both past and future, regarded as a whole. Time is NOT hours minutes and seconds. That is just how we measure time. When someone is in a plane that can travel at supersonic speeds (alot faster than we are travelling here on earth) time will pass slower for them. If someone were to go into space travelling faster than light and then be able to come back to earth, they would see that time passed slower for them in thier "warpspeed (faster than light speed)."Einstein believed that speed of light was the fastest in the universe and so far we havent been able to prove him wrong. One interesting thing to think about is that when we look at a star - we are actually looking at the past. In the time it takes for the light from that planet to travel to earth. the star itself might have been destroyed! If we were able to (for theoretical purposes) travel at 1,000,000 times the speed of light and we went out from the earth and looked back - then we would be able to see the earth as it existed a million years ago!!!Interesting stuff.. i could go on and on this stuff fascinates me

Do You Prefer Light Or Dark Layout?
dogomchawi replied to alexia's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Most people prefer light websites in most situations because it makes them feel better or more comfortable.I always preferred lighter websites too because it makes it look more professional. Wehn you have a dark website it usually goes way to overboard on the whole darkness bit.Its ok to have a dark website as long as you make the colors go together right. Like a dark background with a brushed silver graphic with hard lines always seemed too look cool to me. I tried a bunch of different site designs and the lighter one always really seemed to come out on top.One thing i would consider taking a look as is the actuall colors that you use on your site. Certain colors will naturally remind someone of something so it can be useful to play off this quirk of the brain to acheive the type of mood about your site that you are looking for. -
What Is A Spudgun? What exactly is a spudgun...
dogomchawi replied to amhso's topic in General Discussion
Spud Guns are weakMe and my cousins stepped up from the traditional spud gun to build a Grapefruit cannon =)This baby shoots the grocers finest Grapefruit over 200 yards. In fact we have never really seen where they land when shooting straight out - but we have managed to put several well placed shots on the roof of the industrial building behind my house. Our grapefruit cannon is about 8.5 feet long. The combustion chamber was made using 6" diameter piping and is about 3 1/2 feet long. The barrel was made using 4" inch piping and can really shoot all sorts of stuff. We actually stole a cornish game hen from the freezer and sent that thing blasting across my back yard.We also realized that mere hairspray (which is the most common propellant for spud cannons) would never make it in a system this massive. So we decided to use propane =) and a few other special ingredients (pvc cleaner <-- the fumes are wicked explosive, and a little bit of WD-40 to get a juicy flame)Over-all this thing sounds like a medival cannon and blasts a grapefruit way over the 8 acres that I own. It actually enters the 15 acres behind our land and we can never find enough grapefruit to determine where the thing landed. We made a video and put it online somewhere but I cant remember the exact link -- i will look and see if i can find anything =) -
50 bucks for a square meter?!?! I am gonna put that crap up as wallpaper then and have ally my games and stuff up all over my walls!!i think it would be really cool tho if they started to put that stuff in magazines. For all you peoples who liek Harry POtter - it would be like the pictures of the poeple movin in the paper.I had heard about this a while ago and there is also something related to this (or maybe its teh same technology) but its call OLED ( Organic LED) and it uses organic compounds to make a screen thin enought that it could fit inside your windsheild on your car. So you could have a pimped out HUD (heads up display for the non-military =P) that would show maps and stuff right in your windsheild. And because it was made with organic stuff it was really cheap to make... mebbe this is the same thing haha. oh wellWhatever it is I can wait until they have a screen small enuf that I can watch TV in Philosphy and have it look like i am still takin notes!

This was inspired by the other guys post about the speed of light. So the new thing is using light waves to do computing =) Of course it isnt really working yet but I thought it was really cool so i figured i would post something here. The basic working thing is that you supercool atoms to within a few degrees of absolute zero. Then you send a beam of light through them - and - viola, a baby can crawl faster than light. What happens is that as the light wave passes through the frozen atoms its speed is dramitcally reduced. So much so that the speed of light goes from 186,000 miles per second to 1 mile per hour! Scientists are able to control how long the light wave is held at the speeds the determine and which direction it goes in afterwards. So imagine your hardrive or something being a mini-freezer that slows light down - does computations - and send its along on its merry little way. Talk about super-computing.They have been able to control a light pulse so much that it seems to fade and then stop, then starts up again whenever its called. The process doesnt involve stopping the actual photons. What happens is that the information about the light wave is rapidly stored in special atoms that are trapped with a glass tube. Then when the light needs to be manipulated the photon information is turned into a replica of the original wave and sent where it needs to go.It taps into the heart of Quantum Mechanics to create the ultimate computer.Einstein argued that light speed was the absolute limit of speed in the universe. So technically if you used a computer that operated at light speed it would be the fastest computer in the universe =)You could play World of Warcraft 24/7 and never have a single stich of lag in IronForge!! WOOT That right there is a reason to get a light-speed compy. What do you guys think?

Modding a laptop can be a difficult process - it is usually hard to update the graphics card especially. The graphics card that you are using in a tower computer for example cannot be inserted into a laptop becuase the pins are different. In fact my graphics card on my desktop machine is thicker than my laptop is! I would look online or at like CompUSA to see if anyone is selling laptop GPU (graphic proccessor unit) cards. If you go to those types of stores you will notice that everything is different for laptops - the memory and card sizes are all alot smaller and the pin arrangement is different. I would also suggest that you look on NewEgg.com to see if they are selling graphics cards for laptops. They are a very reliable site with awesome customer service, low prices and wicked fast shipping. Good luck!

New Features In Gmail! gmail launched new features
dogomchawi replied to mayank's topic in The Internet
You guys should check out this article on CNN "Where will Google go Next?" It talks about how Google is slowly taking over the World!! WOOO! Go Google! The thing with Gmail that is sooo hot is the fact that people now have over 2.5 gig of free space. I have been tryin diligently and i still cant fill that much space up. The Gmail interface is also really nice cuz its simple and clean and loads fast. It also makes heavy use of scripts to autofill email addresses and all that sort of business. Gmail is the future. Unfortunatley you need to get invited to use it so alot of people havnet been able to feel the power =P -
I used to use styleXP on my vaio laptop in school but I never really noticed a performance decrease. Didn't have too many problems with boot times either. I think that laptop only had something along the lines of 512k memory. You might have alot of other stuff running on startup too that are takin up all yer cpu time and memory space. Some of the themes look way better than the standard grey bars tho - Hopefully Windows Vista (being more graphics driven) will have an option were u can load different themes using the OS software instead of a third-party program.

Looks like my leet samurai skills just got even more leetImagine if they coated a submarine or a warship with this stuff? You could dump a sub right off a coastline loaded with nukes and no one would be any wiser. The one major flaw with this stuff is that all you need to do is walk around the person and tadaa! there they areIt only works because there is a camera in front that uses a projector to project an image on the back of the person. not really practical for real world applications.Although i bet they could use this with stationary objects, like buildings or something, but on people i think it would be impossible to use it practically.Cool pictures tho =)

Yep, just stick in your public folder (usually public_hmtl or www ) and you will be all setBy default a browser will look for any page named "index.htm" or "index.html" before it does anything else.Xisto creates an index page automatically so you will need to override it with your own index page

Leaving Your Computer On? - is this good for it?
dogomchawi replied to nickmealey's topic in Software
One of the things about your CPU is that when its running it gets really hotwhen its off it gets nice a cool againas soon as it goes back on it gets hot again... anything that fluxates temperature like that all the time is gonna wear out fasterso i just leave my compy on all the timeI would rather foot the electric bill then have to go through the whole angsty process of finding a pimp new CPU and adding the thermal paste and heatsinks and all of thatbut then again i am pretty lazy -
How Do You Find Lines In Php? The Title says it all :P
dogomchawi replied to scab_dog's topic in Programming
I would suggest that you either get Dreamweaver which costs a lot of money or Textpad Within Texpad there is an option for syntax highlighting and line numbers - so you can get your code all pretty looking AND get the line numbers too =) Here is the link for Textpad: http://www.textpad.com/ -
try zooming all the way in on the moon =) As for the French government... nevermind If there is a private location that you think shouldnt be so easy to see then Google will make the area fuzzy so that it is difficult to see too much of anything. This prevents too much security issues... But then again the last time the French tried to protect thier land the germans just walked right around (Allsaice Lorraine)...o my bad
