Easiest Way To Build Up Your Website build up your website
Xamire replied to gates's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I'm going to give you some huge advice, that I wish someone would have given me years ago. Use a CMS (content management system) or a Blogging system! You'll have a gorgeous website, and you won't have to know how to code anything. You install, hook it to an SQL server, and bam.. you're ready to tinker around with settings. Go with Wordpress first, then work your way into Joomla or Drupal (I suggest Joomla as it's easier than Drupal). Joomla.org Wordpress.org They're 100% free, and both systems have thousands of free (and paid for) extensions that add TONS of functionality. You would have to be a good coder, and spend years, and years, to make something this good. Give it a try. The "make your website online right now" auto site makers are terrible. The websites generally look awful, and you have almost no functionality. (as shown in opening post pictures) Use the forums on those websites, and the documentation (if needed), and use Youtube to watch some videos, and you should be up and running in no time, with a site that looks like a profession built it (because they did). Joomla and Wordpress get millions in funding every year, to make these open source, free of charge systems. Use them. -
Have you ever seen that horseshoe shaped arm with a hand of one color at one end, and another color at the other holding hands?I would go with something like that, and add some music symbol(s) in the middle with writing. Add a drop shadow to the arm/hands graphic. And use some lighting or starburst the writing in the center via layer mask.

Best Thing For Making Website Templates! website templates
Xamire replied to addict's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Many say that Dreamweaver is the best design program for creating website templates. I'm sure other companies have in-house tools, that the public doesn't have access to, but I do know that many Joomla and Wordpress template designers, use Dreamweaver for allof their projects. Of course they use Photoshop, or Gimp as well, can't forget the real graphics! -
Broadband Modem Sharing Accessing Internet from 2 computers
Xamire replied to Nik1405241546's topic in Computer Networks
The best, and cleanest way of doing this, is to simply buy:A wireless routerpci/pci-e/usb etc cardDon't forget, the wireless router has plugs in the back (usually 4) so just put the modem+router near one computer, then you will only have to buy one wireless card for the other machine (like I have set up right now, in my home). Here's the setup:Coax cable from wall (thick cable cord) --> Modem --> Wireless router internet input via ethernet cordThen just simply plug the computer near it, into one of the open ports in back. Don't forget to set up yourwireless security. You can generally get into your router's GUI by typing in 192.168.1.1 when everything is hooked up and running. What's nice about doing it this way is.. you don't have to share a connection from one computer (which it isn't really designed to do efficiently). And so you can add more wireless, and wired devices in. PS3, xbox, extra laptops, friends netbook, someones wifi internet phone.. etc. Having wireless internet in your home is very nice to have, and it gives features to others that come visit - and have devices to use it. -
Gimp, and Adobe Photoshop are comparatively the same. While Photoshop costs, quite a bit, and Gimp is open source, so it's free - that's the kicker!Photoshop does have a few extra goodies (depending on what version you purchased) but the extrasare usually worthless to all but a few specialty designers. There is another photo and image manipulation software, that's also open source, and thats Krita. I have not used it, but have heard that its quite a mature program. Overall I think Gimp is the better option. I feel it's more simplistic in it's design, whichhelps users (especially first time learners) adapt to the overwhelming buttons, contextual menus, and tools. Gimp takes up less space, both screen wise, as well as ram, and hard drive. But like I said.. the biggest of all is because it's free! Open source is a great advancement for developers, and designers.

How To Print A Logo On Letter Head From This Logo Maker?
Xamire replied to luckviki's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
Hello there! First off, I must say that for anyone building their own website, or websites for a living, should get to know either gimp, or Photoshop. As you know Photoshop costs, but Gimp is 100% free, open source. Graphic and Image Manipulation Program, is what Gimp stands for, and will certainly help you with doing graphics. Gimp Website This might take you a bit to learn use some of the tutorials on their website, and on Youtube. For me, I think Gimp is easier to learn from, and use, compared to Adobe Photoshop. But, if you need a company logo, for your website, asap, then I'll have to direct you to cooltext.com, where you can make a pretty nice logo name at least, until you sit down and play with Gimp (or Photoshop respectively). There really is no program out there to just "do it for you", you need to sit down, and teach yourself to use one of those tools. You'll be amazed at what creative cool things come out when you start getting the hang of it. -
Boast Your Computers Specs. Feel free to brag

Amd Athlon II x4 6304gb 12600 DDR3M4n68t-mAti HD5670Not the best system, but it has yet to stop me from playing any game,or doing anything. 4 core processors are the best to have ATM (especially for gaming)due to most manufacturers of games, utilizing up to 4 cores now. Tomshardware has a nice readout of that as well, and how, with many apps, a 3 core processortrumps all others. Math is weird! -
Advice/opinion On A Family Website
Xamire replied to manuleka's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
If you're comfortable with wordpress, then use it, and get a forum board to go along with it. Phpbb, or any of the others out there. If you want more functionality, Then go for Joomla, as it is strong, stable, and easier to use than Drupal, and free. With Joomla, you could get an extension called "jomsocial" which costs, or "community builder" which is free, and both serve a "facebook" like function. Only along with that, you can integrate forums directly into Joomla, easily, add chat, and do - pretty much anything! The downside? It has more buttons and levers than wordpress to operate. But, if you're not looking for all that, then by all means, stick with wordpress, get more comfortable with the controls, check through their plugin database and just play around with it. Use the forums (and the forum search tool) on the websites. As far as plugins go for wordpress, I really couldn't tell you. I haven't really messed with itsince picking up Joomla, and teaching myself everything about that system. I know that, like mostopen source blogging, or cms software, the plugins that work well change from month to month (give or take). Just go look around, and read the reviews on them, forum search, google search. And have fun. -
Open source, Notepad++ is an excellent thing to have around, if you're a website builder, designer, etc. Since you have to (at least sometimes) edit lines of code, this is the biggest help, as it has each line numbered, and easy to see. Windows NotePad has no support for line numbers, and WordPad usually ends up smashing all the code together (and sometimes saves it wonky, and it's unusable).

Youtube Is Dying copyrights copywrongs
Xamire replied to imjjss's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Hello there,Youtube isn't dying. Not by a long shot. The reason it has been blocked in your country, is becauseyour leaders don't want to take the chance that copyrighted videos, etc, will be brought into the country. Youtube tries to get rid of copyrighted materials, as soon as they are reported, but many slip by, due to the overcrowding of users. They can't keep up! And they get paid from Ads which, pay on clicks, and on traffic. Youtube has insane traffic, so no,It's not dying, probably ever. -
You can either use cpanel to forward them, or do what I do, and use a simple .htaccess file Make a text file, name it htaccess - add this info: Redirect 301 / http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Then you simply upload via ftp, and use it in whatever directory you need it in. (main file if using Xisto to the site above), and then rename it with a period in front of the htaccess (.htaccess). Very easy to do, and works well.

Which Operating System Is Better? Its a poll
Xamire replied to swinkid's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I would have to say, windows 7, due to a better system overall. More beautiful, more functionality. For this time frame though (few years ago) Xp is winner. And Nice Forum Necro =) -
Hello there, I have read over Xisto's Privacy Policy, which states how they handle your information legally. That website link is xisto.com/privacy.htm (and it appears they are quite confidential with your information, unless it's a bank, which is understandable). If I'm not supposed to link, please delete it, and I apologize.

What Cms Are You Using And Why? Looking for the top CMS
Xamire replied to Xarex's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Hello there!I'm brand new here, but I have some heavy experience with a few different CMS's (content management systems), but only one really makes me feel at home. Joomla! The open source CMS, and to be honest the absolute best. Not only will you be able to do anything to your hearts desire (due to the insane amount of free, and commercial plugins /modules/components), but it also will not cost you a dime. You will, however, need to learn the system. Joomla, can integrate every single thing in yourlist, and then some. The possibilities are endless. I would suggest you download it (joomla.org), and just play around with it, while doing some reading, and forum searching on their website. You will be flat out amazed, and will understand why Joomla (formerly mambo) is the best there is, when you need something more than what wordpress has to offer. Download the highest 1.6 version(which, at the time of this writing, is 1.6.3). I have an article written on my website, on how to download and install Joomla (with pictures!) Sorry if the article is sloppy. I was in the middle of changing my template /modules around last night, and my current hostlocked my ip out for 24 hours (normal for them) due to too many connections while changing options, and reloading to see what it looks like. That's why I came to Xisto! Hopefully get a better server, and for posting, and joining this community - sounds awesomeMy website address xamire.com (use the top menu, and click the "articles & News" then click "how to guides" then choose "how to install Joomla")If posting any web address is a problem, then I'm sorry, and please remove.
