Okay, so recently i got comcast high speed internet and i have a linksys router, but i am told by a bunch of my friends that linksys doesn't really like to work with comcast internet, so i was wondering what kind of router i should get.
please only post if you HAVE comcast cable internet not if you THINK you know the answer. thanks

I have a small company network setup as a Windows XP workgroup. I notice that to be part of the network, there was no password required from the individual machines. I want to give my customers access to the internet from the waiting room but don't want them to connect to my workgroup. Is there any way in Windows or Router configuration to do this? Thanks.

Are u using a wired or wireless setup ???

If u add passwords on any of the pcs and choose make my files private.... Xp will not allow other pcs to connect without the password....

To block view of pcs in my network places ....

Xp uses WORKGROUP as the default name for the workgoup so if a customers pc is connected with windows all ur pcs will show up in network places.....To prevent this right click on my computer click properties and change the workgroup name to something else say KEASHGROUP.....

If u follow both the steps above your customers wont be able to access or view ur Pcs....

Cut of text or images could be due to the cartridge running low on ink or needs to be cleaned.... As u said the ink levels are ok ... Try cleaning the cartridges..... use a tissue on the left over or dried ink.....Have u refilled the cartridges ?? If u have the cartridge might have been damaged.....

To host a cs server with steam is easy....Install the game and run hlds.exe..... Easy settings in them....after you click start.... It might show you a ip like 192.168.1.20 or 192.168.1.2 this is when you have a router....Some of you might need to open certain ports in the router like 20715 ...... Router access page address varies but mostly it is 192.168.1.1.Others need to provide their ip address provided from their isps... This information can be accessed through the router page under wan ip....Or simply go to http://www.speedtest.net/ and your Ip will show up on the speed test page....If ur ip is for example 192.168.1.2:27015 in hlds speed test will definitely show you another ip for ex 172.24.31.31 (this is my ip on speed test)So my HL dedicated server address will be 172.24.31.31:27015.

I can't enter credit card info into my pro-pay account on my laptop. It works just fine on our Desktop PC, but for some reason, from the laptop, it gives an internet connect error, and won't let you connect. Is there a setting that is blocking this because it is a wireless connection?

Check to see if any firewalls are blocking the program.... disable any firewall and try.....

I upgraded my emachines t5212 from 2 512 sticks of ram to 2 1gb sticks. The computer still doesn't recognize the new ram. It shows only 1 gb of ram instead of 2.

Plz check and see if your motherboard supports 2 gb ram... Are bot the rams of the same make ???

If they are different makes they might not be compatible with eachother....

My Laptop (netbook) is Degee I8B11D4 and recently it has picked up this annoying habit of stopping and freezing pretty much any program I run every 2 to 10 minutes. No matter the program, everything from Torchlight to windows explorer(actually froze firefox after typing that), the program will freeze and I will get the "not responding" message most of the time. The amount of time it will lock up varies roughly between 5-30 seconds and sometimes longer.
My anti-virus(avast) tells me I'm clean, and I have defragmented and cleaned out my HDD. I even went through and cleaned as much dust as I could find and still to no avail. I have no real idea what is causing this. If anyone could help narrow my problem down I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi you have a atom processor and 1 gb ram which is a weak choice for windows 7.... Plz shift to a liter os like winxp....

Computer freezing like you said is not normal and is not due to ur configuration....

Plz try run a full format of ur hard drive and install windows 7 again.... Dont forget to back ur files up before formating....

Freezing would be a os related problem thus i recommend you get windows 7 reinstalled from scratch....

Let me throw this out first. Whenever I spend $20.00+ at Radioshack, I end up destroying it before figuring it out. I said that so you'll know the outcome of one device I'll soon mention ($35.00[?]).

 

Back to the story. Just before school started this (technically last) year, I went to Radioshack and bought an accelerometer (35 bucks) and I saw a RFID card reader (originally $50.00[?]) on sale for $8.??. I got it on impulse. Lucky me could only buy the one that has serial communication, not USB. That's OK because I can program a PICAXE with the "Yenka" program's PIC section. PIC and PICAXE is flexible in that they're re-programmable, thus can be used in many applications. Here is the problem. I don't have a PICAXE.

 

I can wait until the 23^rd of next month and get a "Rush Card" and have maybe $30.00 on it. I would still need a way to program it. Until then, I would like to use my laptop to communicate with it. However, my laptop only has USB and parallel port(s). Is it at all possible to use the parallel port to communicate with the reader?

 

As you said your card reader has a serial port... you will have to buy a usb to serial converter cable.... It is called also known as USB 2 RS232 converter.....

NO sound is coming from my toshiba nb305 netbook speakers, only headphones. When i click the speaker icon beside the time the sound level goes up for headphones that are not plugged in, and for speakers, nothing. Its like its stuck on trying to play out the headphone jack. Is there a way i can switch it? I'm on Windows 7.

It could just be that the slot where u insert the jack is damaged and still detecting the headphones even when u plug it out..... It its in warranty get it done at the store u bought it from.... Or try uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them back....

If you have received a recovery dvd or a windows 7 dvd with your laptop then its possible... If now you will have to go and get one.... Either buy a licensed dvd or download it if u already have a license ..... Once you have a windows 7 dvd just insert the dvd and restart your computer... Make sure you boot from cd/dvd if u have not done so in the bios...Once you boot from dvd a message will appear.... Press any key to boot from cd..... Once you start the setup you can choose to format/ repartition / resize your hard disk.... Rest is pretty simple just read the instructions and continue.... Hope this helps...

Go into control panel, Add and remove programs..... Click on add and remove windows components.... Once the page loads with windows programs in them just uncheck internet explorer and click next..... Ur done...

hey i need your help badly my lenovo laptop CD/DVD driver is not working properly,i was just trying to format my laptop but the DVD was not detected and i was not able to format is there any problem with my DVD driver but it was detecting the other CDs but could not copy any data to the CD.do i have to purchase a new DVD writer?or any of the other software would help? plzzzzz help me rply as soon as possible...

If it can read regular cds and cannot read dvds... there is a problem with ur dvd drive it may need to be replaced.....

Get a external dvd rw... It will be a cheaper option than replacing ur current laptop dvd drive...

I have Windows 7 and i have some problems so i want to install Mac OS.I heard there is hacked version called Hackintosch, but i want to install the original.Can anyone help me with that or tell me is there an original Mac OS version for regular computers

If ur gna install the original version it has to be compatible with ur hardware.... Hacked versions have compatible drives for most of the new devices.....

Some hacked versions like JaS, Kalyway, iATKOS, iPC and iDeneb exists......

You have to download the os and burn it onto a dvd...

Insert the dvd while booting like you would do in windows xp or 7....

If your computer isnt functional... Start from the basics... Ram ... Try shifting it..

 

1 beep = Normal computer startup....

 

If u hear a constant beeeeeep its the graphic card tht has a problem...

 

If u hear a beep beep after evry 1 or 2 seconds.... Ram problems...

 

If u hear no beep but your computer powers up.... It could be your cpu... It may need to be replaced or just cleaned and stuck back in....

I'm not able to recollect exactly right now but I am getting the feeling that msconfig is not fully transparent. That is, it does not provide us the complete list of Programs that'll be running at startup. Does anyone have any program running at startup that's not listed in msconfig ? Maybe it could be listed in the registry and not here ?

Msconfig has all the information of every startup item....

If you are referring to stray programs like spyware, adware or a virus..... These are even undetectable by some antivirus programs.....

Thanks guys.... And one more thing if you do run msconfig please do not play around with the Microsoft programs..... Disabling wrong programs could disable audio, video and others like cd burning......

Go to run type msconfig and hit enter....Go to startup and u can tick all that you want to load up during startup and untick the rest....

You could just unscrew your keyboard.... The screws or screw will be on the back side.... It will be marked with a small keyboard....Once you get your keyboard out it will be easier to work with....

If your viewing your website on your own pc and it takes time... I recommend you get a faster PC, Upgrades or you can format your system and try....If you are trying to view it faster from a web server..... You need to have a fast enough internet connection to actually load a 12MB file in seconds...... I think a 2Mbps or above would be fine but if you are trying to get it load faster with a slow internet connection ..... Its just not possible...

Mac is a good operating system for Novice users....AndMac can also be really powerful designers system....Had installed mac on my dv2000 and it seems more stable than windows in networking, Cd burning and few other features thats it....Windows is better than mac in lots of ways but sometimes its the other way round too.....

Did you try contacting your hosting provider ?? It could be a simple mistake.....If i remember right there are logs in cpannel to track your bandwidth consumtion.....Some of the ways i know how bandwidth could be used up....Bandwidth is calculated according to what you have uploaded or downloaded to and from your current web host....If you have uploaded a lot of files....If you have downloaded thoses files....If you host a file and others keep downloading....
