Another Howtoforge.com - The Linux Vault

The Linux Vault, "The Linux Wikipedia", is a new wiki project founded with the mission of creating a centralized GNU/Linux information website.

Although to guarantee that all the information on this site stays current at the current pace of Linux-related development, you would require a wikipedia-size user base and that's not likely to happen.

Didn't there used to be something like this awhile back? Linux Documentation Project or something like that? I vaguely remember it but not as of recently.Linux support is easier from the vendor's community areas (like the forums on the various distribution's sites) and on IRC. It's hard to beat live support like that.

This project is listened to excellent, so that sometimes one needs information relative to a certain distro but with this type wikipedia we will be able to have the information in a single page. I hope that this project I advanced and it does not remain suspended.

The problem is that the Linux community is so fractured that you get like a million little groups something else than a centralized belief. Yes, they believe in using Linux, but don't agree on how to put Linux together, let alone document it.xboxrulz

This looks like it could turn out to be a useful resource, but is rather empty at the moment. Unfortunately, I have a feeling it will probably stay mostly empty or not up to date, which will be problematic. One of the problems I have with Linux is that many distros release new releases twice or year or thereabouts. While it is good that fixes are being implemented, many of the new releases change numerous things that totally invalidate the old workarounds and drivers and other things people have come to rely on. So this project of creating good documentation will become nigh impossible as time goes on.~Viz

I just feel that Linux fails to achieve standardization. If there were some standardization amongst the distros, then we don't need to constantly have different teams of people to right about something about a software that does essentially does the same thing as the next one, but look and act differently than the other one. It just angers me sometimes when using Linux with different distributions being so radically different.xboxrulz

However, my DNS server reports 72.29.83.205 as the IP address behind http://www.thelinuxvault.net/, but I tried using http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ instead of http://www.thelinuxvault.net/ ... and it doesn't work, for some strange reason.
