Customize your installation of Windows

nLite is a freeware and small but powerful program that lets you customize your installation of Windows and then burn a new Windows installation cd. This program supports all windows versions such as:

* Windows 2000 (Professional, Server, Advanced server)

*Windows XP (Professional, Home, MCE, N, X64 Professional)

* Windows server 2003 (Standard, Web, Enterprise, X64, R2).

With this small program you can do following:

*integrate a service pack to your windows installation CD/DVD.

* Add hot fixes and update packs to your windows installation CD/DVD. You no longer need to download windows hot fixes and update packs for later windows installation.

* integrate your hardware drivers to packs to your windows installation CD/DVD

* Add or remove Windows Components

* Tweak your Windows, for example registry Tweaks

*Answer to all of the questions that windows typically ask during installation, such as your cd key, usernames and password, Account type, networking information, and time zone for later installations.

And ...

nLite needs following Requirements:

• .NET Framework 2.0

• Windows installation CD for the original Windows installation files

Nlite is an excellent program. I was glad to see an introductory written here about it. I enjoy modifying my windows xp installation and creating silent installs for the programs that I use.

To be honest, being a die-hard OS tweaker, I've tried nView several times, and every time I was left with only partially stable system. Don't get me wrong, I've read everything before going with that piece of software but some pieces of code are so deeply integrated into the (closed-source) system, that you don't really know what will fail after you finish cutting the crap out. Having said that, I do believe that nView is a unique kind of software, and I find it extremely helpful in automating some rather tedious tasks during installation of Windows XP. Let's hope that the cutting engine will reach perfection in the upcoming versions.
