10 Years Of Windows 95

10 years ago Microsoft released a new Windows, a Windows with which the computer science revolution would begin, a Windows with name of Chicago development, a Windows able to compete with OS/2(still does not obtain ). They were the 00 hours of the 24 of August of 1995, Microsoft announced Windows 95, nobody it could avoid it, it was a fever, in all sides said Windows 95. An impressive advertising campaign, the song of the Rolling Stones "Start Me Up", the first forefront of newspapers most read.... It was a fashion, in 7 weeks already had been sold 7 million copies. Windows 95 introduced a new well-known API like Win32, support multitask, FAT32!

I remember seeing video of people crowded around storefronts, waiting to be let in to buy Windows 95. I wonder if anyone is going to get that excited over Windows Vista (longhorn).

Well I don't quite remember any of the hoopala about the time Win95 was launched.. I'd just passed out of school and was headed into college, and the truth be told.. I really didn't know much about computing.. in-fact.. at that point in time, I didn't even have an e-mail ID.. but at college we had to really get into using computers.. loads of projects.. so then it was just use document editors... lol.. I actually just used notepad and thought that it was really cool.. :-)... then I graduated to Word.. and I learnt my first shortcut keys.. wow.. was I excited....

 

The thing about Windows Vista is that, although well publicized.. there are already enough windows versions around.. So people with computers already have an OS to run... also, businessess that have invested in an OS will want to wait a reasonable amount of time till they replace their OS. So, although there will be a moderate rush to purchase Vista, there I don't believe there is going to be a 'mad' rush..

Win95... <sigh>... my first experience with real computers. (I was only used to BASIC and DOS in school). I still remember after struggling for 10min with the login password, I clicked on 'Cancel' and it logged me in. . hehe.

I am expecting Windows Vista (Longhorn), however I do not even know how the desktop looks like. I expect some same things with Windows XP but not as much as a memory hog. I mean, wow.... 20-30k of memory (Just the Explorer.exe!)I wonder if that rush will work through these plans-Make the Windows Vista a lot cheaper... maybe $149? Maybe less?-Put a counter or a count down on the Micro$oft site-Advertise all the content on itI believe they could make something like $100,000 just from those three ideas. I guarantee!! LOL Well, I'm not VERY sure but I think it will be a good chance...

It was a great OS at the time. I think that I actually still have a Win95 install CD somewhere at home. I KNOW that I have Win98. Wow. I'm a nerd.

 

My favorite part: the really smooth, awesome GUI. I'm one of those lazy PC users who loves the mouse.

lol, my friend still uses Windows 95 lol. I have the Windows 95 upgrade disk/s (never really looked inside the box). I also have that really early OS of Windows 3.11 (which only took up a few MB's lol.my 500MB hard drive died that used to run Win 95 lol (Win 98 SE stuffed it up)

Wow !10 years... they sure have passed by.I just can't believe it's been 10 years since I heard this old chestnut....Windows 95: noun. 32 bit extensions and a graphical shell for a 16 bit patch to an 8 bit operating system originally coded for a 4 bit microprocessor, written by a 2 bit company, that can't stand 1 bit of competition.Keep smiling...

I *very vaguely* remember it being a big deal on network TV and such. It was weird. I didn't care. I was ... 13? Yeah - I didn't *really* start getting into computers until something like the year after that.

 

But Windows *can't* release a new OS! I'm actually COMPLETELY HAPPY with XP! This is the first time Bill's done something that I have ZERO complaints about! Then again ... give me time ... I'm sure my balloon of optimism will explode someday.

From what I aware of id LongHorn is a server base version of windows. Dont think it will be for everday computer users. And if it follows the other server versions it will more than likely cost over a grand up to 1500.00. I dont think it will be cheap.

Actually, the Microsoft website makes it seem like they're developing two different Vistas; one for P.C.s and one for servers.

Windows95 hmm that makes me remember my school days in which our school computers were being upgraded from DOS to Win95. Thats not all, even recently I visited my school and still found the systems with Win95 except the new computers which use Win98 or XP.
