Help In Windows Update

hii have Windows XP Profesional service pack 2,i used windows update and i installed all new hot fixeswindows creates backup from old files in windows directory,but it occupied my hard disk :D ,now my question is:can i delete old files?

I am in the same boat as you and from what I understand is that the new hot fixes will need the old files in order to work. Also the next time to use windows update it will see that the old files are not there and it will then redownload and reinstall them. But this is from what I think is the case I am not sure if this will happen or not but I am sure that the old files are needed for the new hot fixes. If this is not the case I am sure that someone will correct me.

These files in windows can be deleted all it means is that you cannot uninstall the updates from you computers, so if they cause any problems, you are stuck with them.

That is correct, but your only stuck with them until you reformat your hdd. Though, once you reformat you will have to re-download service pack 2, and all of the patches.

 

Even though I don't have xp, I would say your best choice would be to keep them on there so you don't run into problems.
