Ps3 Specs And The Debate how the fun really begins...

Recommended Posts

e3 started this monday, and Sony decided to reveal it's new next-gen system.

check out the specs here:
http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

and the full article from gamespy:
http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

Looks a bit weird, but then again, Sony has always catered to the Japanese/Eastern market and had the best success there, so it may be a design derived specifically from there.

Now the debate begins though, PS3 will obviously be a hit, as well the Xbox360. Both will probably find the most success in their native markets (ie, ps3 the east, x360 the west) as has been the case so far.

The x360 seems to be focusing more and more on user input, through live and live aware titles and really pushing the gamer creating content.

The ps3 looks as if it's focusing on raw power and is assumed to be coming out with some new online features (plus their ethernet port supports base10/100/1000!!!) so hopefully they'll have some kickass stuff in that department =D

Which system do you think will do the best and which one are you looking forward to the most?

i was looking forward to xbox360 the most, between my ps2 and xbox i always bought games on the xbox if i had the option, i dont really know why but i always fealt that the games were better on xbox, except for sports games, i always get those on ps2, but i have to say that i want xbox360 more, elder scrolls oblivion and perfect dark zero (i think thats the name) are both coming out for xbox360 and i love the elder scrolls series and perfect dark on n64 was great. on the other hand i am also going to have to get ps3 because from what the specifications say, it is more powerful. that right there just tells me that they will be making some amazing games for the ps3 which will make me buy it, ugh, decisions decisions, in the end i guess i will just have to get both... :)

Personally, I don't care about any news about the newest video consoles or something. You know, for me PS 3 can even have an 5GHz processor (gosh...) and I still wouldn't buy it... No, not because I don't have enough money (well... that's also one of the reasons, but...) - I just think that you can't uprage a console, like you can upgrade a PC! And well, I don't use a computer mainly for playing games... Oh, and I'm also an active member of internet! But when it comes to make a decision - I would buy PS 3. Because I've also respected Sony as a great and professional developer and I don't like Bill Gates' policy... He's one of the richest man in the whole world and he still doesn't have enough cash? I have never trusted the XboX... It's like a... foreign thing for me... Very unfriendly... And Sony was the very first (a pioneer actually) console with a CD Drive... Correct? And because of that, most of players are with them right now... And they won't leave them!So I choose Sony! I won't buy it, but Japanese developers always had a great technology, so they'll surpass Bill and his toy without any troubles! And they'll got even more fans! I hope so...

There was actually an old Sega system that used a CD drive for it's games. I can't remember exactly what it was called, it may have even been an add-on to the sega master system or something... but I know there was a CD system made by Sega and it was out a long time before the Playstation came out. But yes, the Playstation was the first popular console to use a CD drive.

As for the PS3, those specs are amazing! I can't wait for it to come out, hopefully the release price isn't too high, I'd love to have one as soon as it comes out. Of course I'll have to trade in my PS2 to be able to afford it, but once I have a PS3 my old PS2 will basically be useless to me... ahh I love backwards compatibility :) I'm really looking forward to Gran Turismo 5, and I'm hoping for sequels to the Ratchet and Clank series, and the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series. I will buy the PS3 for these games alone.

In my opinion I think the Xbox 360 has nothing on the Playstation 3, and as far as sales and success goes for these two consoles I think the PS3 will win hands down. Currently the only advantage the Xbox has over the PS2 is it's better graphics capabilities... this time around Sony's system will have the advantage (from what I've heard anyway), and that coupled with the great quality games it has to offer gives me the idea that it will be much more successful than the Xbox. I guess it does just come down to personal preference though, you're either a Playstation fan or you're an Xbox fan (or a Nintendo fan, but for some reason Nintendo's new console has been left out of this debate). Obviously you will want your prefered system to be more successful... it's like following a team in any sport.

It's eitehr Sega CD or Sega Saturn that had the cd drive (both or where they the same thing? LOL). And Nintendo's system got left out because I haven't seen the specs for it and they weren't out at the time of this first post ^_^'''In my opinion I don't think graphical performance is going to make much of a difference anymore, I mean...you get to a certain point where EVERY game on EVERY system simply looks beautiful =P At what point do you stop upgrading a console system? And it's been only 3 or so years since the last set of consoles...has there really been enough time for game developers to get used to the current generation of consoles? Now they have a whole new set of systems to gear up to meet -_-'''At that point it comes down to content and customer preference. Xbox games have always leaned heavily towards north american market in terms of games and have slowly been getting more and more asian style of gaming (*cough*kickassrpgs*cough*), while Sony's been able to keep both north american and asian markets happy. And from that stand point, now both companies (as well as Nintendo) have been able to find niches and developers form all around the world that will be developing games on their consoles.JimBean's final point is the best though, people like to take sides and stick with the team they are the most comfortable with. =)

Yeah that's it... it was called Sega CD, and I'm pretty sure it was a different system to the Sega Saturn... but I'm not completely 100% sure, I never was a big Sega fan. I just remember playing the old Sega CD system at my next door neighbour's house when I was a little kid, and it seems a hell of a lot earlier than the Sega Saturn came out.

And yeah I understand why the Revolution was kept out... the latest Nintendo consoles have seemed to be left out of new console conversation's recently, which is a shame really... I used to be a massive Nintendo fan.

Yeah, that was a completly different system than Sega Saturn because Sega Saturn have never used CDs... It was a quite good console, but it was just killed by Nitendo which was more advanced and had 64 bits... (Or Saturn had that many too? I really don't know...) And the appearance of the first Playstation was the final blow... Poor Saturn... But Sonic the Hedgehog is still alive and in a good form! Now Sega has... Dreamcast? It's quite old AGAIN, you know... It's always like that - PS is the first, Nitendo second and third is Sega... (I don't count Gates' toys...) That's weird, don't you think?PS: I'm not 100% sure is Dreamcast really an Sega's console... I may be wrong...

Yeah Dreamcast is a Sega console... their latest one actually. And yes I think you are right, that always seemed to be the order in that consoles were released... although I don't think Sega will be making any more consoles... at least not any time soon anyway.

Alright fellas, be at ease. A new guru has arrived. And before i get into anything, make sure u remember the name Caesar6! For all you real gamers, (online gamers) I will be kicking ur *bottom* online with the new PS3.Now! Let's just put the facts together. Comparing Revolution (Nintendo), XBox360, and PS3. Why all three at once? Not because it wasnt out at the time the forum began, but because they were all at E3 05'. Now if this forum started when the e3 began, then the revolution was already introduced. Now that we've discussed that, ill just come out and say that the specs on Nintendo's revolution are horrible. Not in the sense that they're horrible "persay", but in the sense that they dont come near touching XBox360's, let alone the all powerful PS3. After listening to the VP of Nintendo discuss his views on the revolution and its competition, he simply stated, when asked how he thought revolution would pair up against the competition, "In the end, its all about the games. Nintendo has been making greaet games since the very beginning, and that wont stop. When the games come out, you'll see that Nintendo will be on top!" Are you serious? Did u just say that to me? Nintendo, give up the charades. Yes, ur new system can download and play any nintendo game ever made, congratulations. Your one recent success (that i never actually spent the time to actually play, nor do i know anyone who has) Resident Evil 4? Congratulations. When ur new console comes out, the only thing i will congratulate u on, is hopefully u've moved from cartridges, to discs, and i suggest you cater towards the kid crowd. Atleast then you'll make some money, Seeing as how i doubt PS3 will hardly touch that area. Then it will seem that your only competition would be XBox360. Also, another word of advice. Next time you come to E3, do NOT just bring a damn console case! What the hell?XBox lovers, hey how you doin. Don't get me wrong, i love and appreciate loyalty, i have it myself. However, there is a thing called reality. Realistically, XBox out of the box (Please read carefully, and notice i said OUT OF THE BOX) Does not compare to Sony's PS3 out of the box. And the comment made earlier about graphics being equally great... please go stick your head in a toilet and flush it for me. (no offense) But graphics can never STOP getting better. Matter of fact, it can start SLOWING down, once it reaches the point that i walk into a friends house, and mistake his gameplay for an actual tv show. Gettin back on subject matter. Although the specs do not meet PS3 (out of the box), they are however, making the XBox360 COMPLETELY customizeable. If everyone takes advantage of this option, no two Xbox's will look alike. EVERY SINGLE GAME TITLE will now have custom soundtrack capabilities, and the controllers, i have to say, though im not an xbox fan, are pretty remarkable. If you dont already know, PS3 and xbox360 controllers are all wireless now. XBox360's controllers will light up a number indicating what player you are. No more lifting up the controllers and following the wire to the port with your eyes, trying to figure out what player you are. Whats more, its major hope in competing with PS3, is the simple fact that just about every game put out on the market, will have online capabilities. Meaning, its catered to the ultimate game! And the controller has a button in the center which allows u to find any of ur friends, on any game, at any given time. As well as lights up whenever a game invite comes to you. I will say, that this is a MAJOR selling point to the XBox360. Now that i've boosted XBox lovers hopes, its time to shatter their dreams with reality as well! At the press conference, VP of XBox was asked, how does he think the specs of XBox360 will match up with PS3 once theyre both put out there, his response was simply "I don't think it really matters." You don't think it really matters? For all those that don't know how to debate, thats simply a way of saying, "they have us beat there, but..." and yes there was a but. The but is the customizeable capabilities and the online game play. Along with the awesome controller, and the any game customizeable soundtrack, there are interchangable faceplates for your new XBox, as well as the option to purchase, YES PURCHASE, Xbox clothing for your character online. And when i say XBox clothing, i mean clothing with XBox logos on it. (If i see anyone with this clothing on, i will be sure to destroy you, whether i can kill u repeatedly in a game, or make u crash in a horrible way in any kind of driving game.) Neway, XBox is definately going the route of a true salesman. If you cant beat your competition, give the public more options than the competition can provide. The good old glamour and go move. Personal tip for Xbox at the E3 events? How about, MORE IN GAME DEMONSTRATIONS. Almost ALL their demonstrations were cgi. For those who arent fully knowledgeable, cgi is movie time. I don't want to see, what i've been seeing in the games that i play now, wishing it was ingame play. I want to see what ill be purchasing. So Show Me, and no im not from Missouri. I'm in Maryland. And finally, don't plant people that work for xbox in the crowd and have them clap as soon as the word Tomb Raider pops up on the screen. It fooled no one. Your people were the ONLY people clapping. And last but not least, the ALMIGHTY, GOD GIVEN, PLAYSTATION 3! My God, where in the hell were they hiding ALL this technology. The tech specs on this monstrous machine are ridiculously sick. Not ONLY did PS3 show demonstrations of the new powerful CELL chip and how REALISTIC EVERYTHING looks on the new system, but they showed IN GAME CLIPS! GRAPHICS GRAPHICS GRAPHICS!!! My GOD! They told their new launch titles as well, and theres more to come. The Killzone video was unbelievable! You can see every strand of hair, every freckle, pores on someones skin! Its ridiculous. Im so excited its hard to gather my thoughts and actually type it all down for you all to review. If you guys havent seen the KillZone video u MUST check it out. Tekken 6? Holy ****! Lemme catch my breath here. Back to the system. Alright, now the new NVIDIA graphics card theyre workin with is so advanced, it is the equivalent to 2 GFORCE graphics cards priced at $500 a piece. That might clear up a few things for u guys. There are so many specs to this thing, ill let u look up the rest. Wireless controllers as i said before. No they dont tell u what player u are, or have a button to find ur friends online like Xbox controllers. atleast i havent heard or read that anywhere, however, no more multi tap purchases! The PS3 can handle a maximum of 7 PS3 controllers. OUT OF THE BOX!!! Theres just so many great things, i really am having difficulty here. U can remove its already strong as **** hard drive and replace it with (God forbid) And even BIGGER hard drive. U are all FOOLS if u choose an XBox360 over a PS3. And those of you who plan on buying both, report back once u have seen the difference. Now i realize some of u have strong prayers for the XBox360, and no they will not flop, BUT... it is NOT the better system. Nintendo has no chance however. Like i said earlier, in order for them to survive, they need to go for the kids (which theyll more than likely do) and then will only be competing with XBox. Now i want to clearify what i've been saying about OUT OF THE BOX!! You see, XBox does have the POTENTIAL to be molded into the better system. LOL now i have u people wondering right? I have a die hard XBox fan as a friend of mine. Whats worse is, he knows so much more about computers than i do. He deals with hardware and programming, and after we both did our respective research, i have listened to his plan on how he can make the XBox atleast 5 times greater than it actually is. And i am sad to say it is possible. Where i could probably only double the capabilities of the PS3. (I just need to figure out, is it because of my limited computer information, or because thats what i've been limited to by Sony itself). So those of you who love XBox, and know computers a great deal, and would even consider yourselves hackers... I can by no means stop you from purchasing an XBox, or try to convert you to buying a PS3. If you know what you're doing, i say go for it, and lemme know how it turned out. But these consoles will be quite pricey. A price was announced for PS3 in Japan, and after it was converted to US dollars it showed a price of $462 dollars. So that is the educated guess i was given from a very reliable source. And since the XBox isnt far behind the PS3 in technology, i imagine it will be in the low $400's high $300's itself. PS3 i've heard is also giving the option of financing its system through dell! Damn wtf? So if you buy an XBox, and try tampering with it, it is no longer OUT OF THE BOX, so your warranty will no loner apply. And if you BREAK it, looks like you'll be shelling out more hundreds of dollars. If you REALLY want an CUSTOM OUT OF THE BOX setup for your XBox, i suggest waiting to see if anyone posts how they tuned up their own xbox online. The funniest part about all this comparison between me and my friend. XBox = American PS3=Import He likes american cars (Ford) I Like Import Tuners (Mazda, and Infiniti/Nissan) Go figure. Please respond to my mini article! Oh, by the way. Another reason nintendo is crap. I was just informed that Nintendo was just bought out by Sega, or was it Sony. It was bought out by one of them, so if you grab a revolution, ull be wasting you're money waiting for them to come out with some for real! It's kinda like their starting over with a brand new Nintendo system. And will have to work their way back up to a 64 standard. I personally don't feel like taking that time to test out their little revolution right now.

Yikes that's one hell of a long post :) (read it all btw, just so you know :) ) and I agree with you one hundred percent on your review of each systems graphical power. Ps3 tops them all in raw power, followed by a mediocre X360 and a flagging Revolution.

The customization for the x360 is going to be amazing, but the online capabilites of each game being a requirement...I'm hoping that refers to "live aware" instead of actual onine gameplay...cause taht would really sink a few games. Though, an rpg where you can play online with friends, as in each person controlling a character (ie: crystal chronicles, tales of symphonia, xmen legends) would be great in my opinion.

and the rev having the ability to play all the other system games? well that's interesting, but nintendo hasn't done much but remake/repackage their old games for the last decade or so, so nothing new =P

And Ceasar6, the person commenting about the graphics having to stop increasing, or should stop increasing was me, and here's my reasoning.

I haven't played a decent NEW video game in...a couple years now. Not to say that they weren't good looking games, I'm refereing to story telling and plot relations.

When the xbox and the ps2 came out they were hailed as amazing systems able to offer stunning graphics. And for the most part they delivered. There are some graphically amazing games out there that really drop the ball in other areas of gameplay.

I'm sure you've heard the stories about video game companies hiring more and more graphical artists, they are always adding more and more. And although the graphics look amazing for these games, other areas of the game suffer.

Don't belive me? Take a moment and review your game collection, games you've played, games you've seen other people play, games you're anticipating. Take a moment and just go over them in your mind. In an honest, unbiased look at them, what did you think about them? What doyou think about the graphics? How about the game play? How long did it take for that game, since its announcement, to come out? ARe you happy with the way it turned out upon release?

Why I say that Sony/MS/Nintendo should stop coming out with new systems with more and more insane graphics is becuase games are suffering. They take longer and longer to produce because they have to spend a hell of a lot more time creating stunning graphics and focus less and less on gameplay and storyline.

but of course, I don't know anything about the industry, half of this I'm talking out of my *bottom* from my experience with games and my analysis' of the way things have been.

Check out this article from gamesspy.com

GameSpy - GDC article

and then check out the "ea spouse" article here

EA spouse lj entry

STuff like this is what makes me form the opinion that stopping the improvement of graphics would be a good thing for everyone involved. To find a way to allow game developers to not have to worry so much about graphics and be able to focus in on gameplay and plot.

In the end, you can expect BOTH PS3 and XBOX360 to not be true to their words. There will always be something they had to cut on.

I'd rather pick up PS3 just for the reason that I own both XBox and PS2 and find myself looking and a vast collection of PS2 games vs 7 of XBox. Seems PS system is geared towards my interests more. Online play doesnt mean much to me since thats what I have PC for

I think SONY will still be ahead of Bill Gates after the release of the PS3, partly because SONY are such a brand now that you know they are going to deliver. With Nintendo, I wont be expecting anything too amazing, partly due to that annyoing thing of a console the 'GameCube'. Sheesh, But you can't argue with the N64, Goldeneye...legendary.

But another point is the PS2/PS3's controller, you cannot argue that MICROSOFT have the best controller, the playstation will always thrive mainly due to that controller, then you look at the XBOX with it's hefty brick of a beast. And you just have to giggle.

But who knows maybe the XBOX will knockout the playstation
