Adobe Acquired Macromedia!

Recommended Posts

Macromedia was acquired by Adobe in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $3.4 billionromedia.
Yes. It is real, and has been approved by both boards of directors.
Macromedia stockholders will receive a tax-free stock exchange

Adobe's product focus on static computer graphic design, but Macromedia focus on dynamic multimedia.

Will the combination of Adobe and Macromedia bring us something new???

So Adobe controls Macromedia now?this is interesting, i hope they do not fu** up Photoshop or Illustrator (i'm not bothered about any other programs) with any incorporation of Macromedia products or anything like that. i will be interested in what they do with it now.Adobe also took over Syntrillium didn't they? - those who gave us Cool Edit Pro - music editing/creation program if anyone remembers.

Man that's HUGE!! Probably in future versions of photoshop we'll be able to make flash animations or dreamweaver.

Whatever they do - I hope they'll keep up with the Dreamweaver, Flash & Fireworks Suite - Adobe products are really good, but so are the ones by Macromedia. I wouldn't want to see either being taken off the market - you can get amazing results by combined usage of these tools. And as for Site-Creator, I wouldn't think of anything else but Dreamweaver - nothing to beat it.

Yeah, i hope they dont screw up Fireworks by putting Photoshop tools in it.. hahaha... I use both Equally, so a photoworks would rock. it would save me from hopping back and forth resaving every 10 minutes. if they can put the filter effects in photoshop from fireworks, while leaving the rest of photoshop untouched i would be in photo editing heaven.

One thing I think would come out of this would definitely be more integration between the products. Probably we should be able to use illustrator paths and input them straight into Flash as vecor based images (not sure whether this is already happening), or input editable psd files with layers into Dreamweaver and create rollovers from Imageready and integrate them into Fireworks or something.Cool. I'm more of a Photoshop purist (no money left to buy Flash?) but this looks good, so long as Adobe doesn't screw up the current Macromedia products, because they are all really fine right now.

I tend to worry at times.Better integration between the various tools is a very desirable course of action, of course. However, I worry about Adobe's flirtations with program bloat at times. Macromedia has tended to make simple programs thus far, and the Macromedia Flash Player is one of the best plug-ins I've seen thus far in terms of ease/speed of installation and operation.I would hate, for example, to have an Adobe Reader and Player, for example, I use a relatively fast computer with good resources all around. I still cringe every time I see Adobe Reader 6 load when I click a link to a PDF. Imagine such a wait--or even half of such a wait--to load an SWF animation. Please prove me wrong, Adobe. For the sake of our Internet, please prove me wrong.

I was just reading on slashdot, Adobe bought Macromedia to stop Microsoft from doing so, now that would have been a disaster. Im not a fan of Adobe, Reader sucks, takes far too long to load and has a dodgey Firefox plugin, Macromedia on the other hand seem to do things well, SWF is an ingenious file type, small but got the quality, they may yet make a good team.

Maybe this will be the start of third generation software.. A program that will let you make flash, images, html and other stuff into one :P . I'm not too bothered with who owns who, as long as the software quality doesn't drop.
