Using Wordpress To The Full Multilingual use

I want to help someone set up a Wordpress driven blog.

 

I know that Wordpress exists in a number of languages, and since the blog I am going to set up is supposed to be bilingual, I was wondering if:

 

I can set Wordpress up in two sections, both using a different language

I have to install Wordpress twice, the two languages separately

I remember that, in a very gray past, I attempted something similar, but then never carried on with the blog, and since it is a long time ago, I do not remember how exactly it was done.

 

I am mainly asking this question for practical reasons, since Wordpress uses a MySQL database, I am not sure whether I will need 1 or 2 databases (tables), ie. one database or table per language or whether I can install both languages using just one database or table.

 

I am also curious whether it is easy to put down the appropriate links down, links which refer to both sections of the language.

 

However, since the blog will be using Xisto's hosting, I might just be able to make a front page, referring to the blog, with a link to the two different language. (As far as I remember, it is possible to 'integrate' a blog into an ordinary web page, so I assume that is possible).

 

If anyone knows more about Wordpress than I do, then I would love to hear from them.

There are actually a few ways to handle something like this:1) You could implement Google Translate into your blog (or I'm sure there's Extensions that will do it for you)2) You can run two separate ones (like you were saying), of which each could be, for example, in its own folder (site.com/en, site.com/eu, etc.) or subdomain (en.site.com, eu.site.com, etc.)3) You can work out a custom design that allows you to have certain sections on two different "home pages"

You can have WordPress setup in two different folders or can have it host two different sub directories with a single installation. However, an alternative is to create each of the pages twice and in separate categories. WordPress has the ability to add a page to multiple categories so even if you are using WordPress categories for your website, you do not have to give up the use of categories to setup a bilingual WordPress website. When the user signs up, you can display a menu for the pages within a specific category so the user only gets the links to the pages that you specify as the category for the language that the user selects. In summary, you would be using a single installation of WordPress, with a single database, but will be creating categories to represent the two different languages. You will then create separate menus for each of the two languages and display the menu for the language selected by the user.The URLs in the address bar may not be what you would like to see but that should not really matter much anyway.You can integrate WordPress with an existing website by specifying the page as a home page, or by adding a link to the page using a custom menu.
