Distributions

Recommended Posts

https://www.pendrivelinux.com/ Offers a tool to create a bootable usb stick.

The tool installs a distribution of Linux on the usb stick.

The tool can install a downloaded distribution.

The  tool contains a list of distributions and versions of linux.

Another way to find distributions is http://www.google.com// .

And wikipedia offers lists of distributrions.

This means that there are several ways to find a distribution of linux.

Did you test some of them? What do you think about them?

I guess that the Linux booted from USB is rather slow, isn't it? I expect the USB accesses to be far slower than the hard drive accesses?

A bootable usb stick has two main functions. The first function is to run the linux distribution from the usb stick. In this scenario the operating system isn't installed on the hard disk. The second function is to use the usb stick to install the linux distribution on the hard disk. This can be seen as a relative fast installation method.

I felt this rather slow, last time I booted a Linux distro from my USB stick. Did you you experience the same behavior, Linux running very slow on USB compared to Linux on internal hard drive?

I don´t have experience with this operating system but I had installed so much times Windows in some computers using a pendrive. This is so much useful because the installation is so much faster and in my personal experience any issue had been seen. Now install the entire operating system in a pendrive, this is different and I am agree with Yordan that the boot must be so much slower than hard drive access.
