Saint_Michael 3 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 It all depends on the computer system you have, but so far everyone is split between how vista is running and right now with the up and coming release of Vista SP1 I would wait it out until SP1 is fully integrated. When I installed vista 2 weeks ago I spent about an 3 hours setting up my vista computer; 31 patches and security updates, software installation and then their updates later it was running smooth. Only problem I have is that I have to buy a gfx card in order for Vista Aero to kick in since my onboard video won't support it.
kgd2006 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 If I were you I would not go out and spend money on the operating system that is not compatible with numerous programs out there. Vista, has many compatibility issues with the old programs for some reason. And I highly reccommend that you stick with a copy of XP until the VISTA operating system fixes all their glitch problems, or our world of programs make patches that are compatible with vista. So far vista is known for causing problems with programs where UIs for that program does not show up. Im am currently using XP. The vista doesnt add anything that gives me the desire to get it, its just trying to copy apples UI and that is all I see from what VISTA offers, and maybe some supposedly more secure operating system. Chesso 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 I haven't had the opportunity to try it yet, but I have many doubts about it's capabilities and what it will lead to in the future.Aside from bugs still present from Windows 95 (how sad I might add), I don't know what is wrong with Windows XP, or why they can't just fix it (oh yeah that's right they need more money lol). Grafitti 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2007 Short version: don't buy it now. XP is still the way to go. Later down the line Vista will be a better alternative, but then you can just buy the upgrade.
Unregistered 0111405241546 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2007 I think I'm going to wait before I go out and actually Vista. Just like when XP first came out, there was a lot of bugs. Vista looks cool, but I'm waiting for the new OS X to see which one is better, I like both Windows and XP. I had the beta vista on my other machine, and it was really cool, but I just switched back XP because it ran way faster. Vista eats up so much of your computer. .:Brian:. 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2007 I don't get what all the fuss is about with vista, I have yet to have a single problem with it (now that i say that, i'll probably have several), but it runs great, and i prefer it over xp so far, as it doesn't seem like it is as easy to botch up your system, or have something else botch it up. The one thing I am, and will continue to recommend is that you buy a computer with vista already on it, otherwise you'll be plagued with problems of the computer not being able to handle vista (either hardware deficiencies, or driver issues)
polarysekt 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2007 From what I've read - most 32bit programming interfaces break with vista. I am to assume this is especially apparent with 3rd party Software Development Kits (SDK's) and so-forth...
Alegis 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2007 I don't get what all the fuss is about with vistaLegions of FUD. As we all know, Microsoft is a company that makes money. This is reason enough for the company to be perceived EVUL by many. Sure, many others will refer to past bad practices of exploiting monopoly - it's the first line where it usually comes down to. The act of reviewing a product based on your own experience has become a lost art, and trolling Microsoft a national sport. But I digress.Same goes for the people saying you should wait for SP1 "because, undoubtedly the product should not be used before that." Well SP1 beta testing is about to start soon.Initial ram usage is higher, but the management better. Vista is better in maintenance and stability than XP, if you match minimum requirements it may be worth it to check it out.Know that you can install any version of windows vista for 30 days without activitation. Find someone with the disc and give it a shot if you aren't sure yet. Students at universities can usually get great deals on MS products. (âŹ40 for ultimate for example). brooks630 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2007 I am using Windows XP SP2 and it works fine. I don't understand what the difference is between Vista and XP 'cos I went on a demo at Comet and I think it's just a glorifyed copy of XP with a different theme and stuff. Stick with XP!
