FirefoxRocks 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2007 I want everyone to try to access his website: http://dhseagles.kpdsb.on.ca/ and the sub-page http://dhseagles.kpdsb.on.ca/~rbeatty/.I am finding it extremely strange that I can access this site at school but not at home, where it is also intended to be accessed.I initially thought it was OpenDNS that caused the problem, although using my ISP DNS server didn't help either.Oh and please don't tell me that the Google Cache is working, I already verified that

I also pinging them with the same results.Best regards,
yordan 10 Report post Posted September 6, 2007 I also cannot reach this site : A gateway timeout occurred. The server is unreachable. Retry the request.Seems to be a gateway problem. Probably the gateways are not correctly defined somewhere : they are correct between your school and this site, and one gateway definition is missing between my PC and kpdsb.on.ca
vujsa 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2007 Yeah, it looks like someone has limited that sub domains accessibility!. Meaning, it can only be accessed internally. This isn't a problem for the entire domain since just on level up works fine. http://kpdsb.on.ca/ is okay here!Your school's IT has limited the sub domain to either a specific IP range or to a specific domain. Since this requires very specific rules to be written either at the server configuration level or with the .htaccess file for the sub domain's folder, I would assume that they don't intend for the web pages contained within to be accessed from outside. This is so that they can control bandwidth and liability by preventing the students from using the school district's server as their own personal web host!Basically, the pages you want to view from "home" aren't intended to be seen from outside of school. Your school knows this already, have done it intensionally, and probably will not release access to the sub domain to the general public. There is actually a huge list of reasons why the school district would not allow student authored web sites to be publicly accessed. The biggest concern is the privacy and safety of the students that may unintentionally divulge important information to online predators.vujsa

It is a site that provides information about the school and stuff. If you view the Google cache, you'll see what it should look like (in a textual format).Basically, the pages you want to view from "home" aren't intended to be seen from outside of school. The biggest concern is the privacy and safety of the students that may unintentionally divulge important information to online predators. The pages aren't student authored, and assignments are supposed to be posted on there if you were absent from school. This is very strange.
