jimmy89 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 It must be something to do with xp pro, cause I have it on my computer too (I don't have frontpage). It sits in the C:\Program Files\ directory!

Markymark2 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 Yes they deploy it as part of XP, I dont think its the FULL version but a LITE version to do some basic editing tasks.I think also by default the XP build has IIS (Internet Information Server) installed and turned on.Its been soo long since I installed XP properly I cant really remember, I have made my own XP build you see with SP2 and Wm11 installed and a whole pile of junk thats not needed removed, so my build probably has IIS and Frontpage taken away so its never installed when I do a clean rebuild. Markymark2 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 Sure but deepdown in the windows folders, maybe the i386 folder there will be a Frontpage deployment cab.It sets the folder up just incase you need to install it (or windows thinks you do) and then it copies the cab to that folder. Also if you into Control Panel then Add Remove software then Windows Components look for IIS in there, it will probably be there.. HellFire121 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2007 It's safe to get rid of the folder, i've done it but then again i used to use it (use dreamweaver now). I think it would be related to office if you have it installed or the IIS package that might've been configured on your installation.Anyways you might want to check if there are any hidden stuff in there but it won't hurt to leave the folder there if you are unsure, it is doing nothing and most likely it wouldn't be a virus or other hacktool.Hope it helps-HellFire
jimmy89 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2007 (edited) So far, I think everyone is right! It looks like it installs with windows itself! But it doesn't seem to be part of ISS! I reinstalled XP Pro a week or two ago - so its still pretty bare, and ISS isn't installed, but the folder is there! There must be another program that may use this directory, or may be that ISS would use this directory, if it was installed!I had a quick check, there is nothing in that folder except a few other folders (microsoft frontpage/version3.0/bin) and the file size reads as 0 bytes (no hidden files either!).According to wikipedia, version 3 of frontpage is the 1998 release, so I have no idea what its doing in Windows XP which was released sometime in 2001.-jimmy Edited July 31, 2007 by Jimmy89 (see edit history)
Ronel 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2007 (edited) let's see............this thing...is acually a folder automatically created by windows.its the cache of information in viewing files created and designed in microsoft frontpage.and its also the file where the system will install its "de lite" components if you want to for viewing these kind of file in the hard disk.so its a precreated folder, to be used(i think i found the file in the system32) M a y b e Edited August 14, 2007 by Ronel (see edit history)
