How To Obtain A Routable Ip Address?

Recommended Posts

I'm using Airtel Mobile Gprs internet on my PC,now everything is working fine and i could browse any website and upload files to FTP server. But unforunately my mobile service provider has put my PC in a private network space (10.) due to this some programs like camstreams not able to reach the window media encoder in order to pull the stream from my PC port 8080. This can be solved Unless I can obtain a routable IP address, other than IP addresses starting from 10 or 192.Here is the IP address i get on my PCstart>Run>cmd>ipconfigEthernet adapter local area connection4:PPP adapter Airtel:connection - specific DNS suffix :IP Address .............. 10.154.22.136Subnet mask.............255.255.255.255Default Gateway........ 10.154.22.136So,Is there any way to get a routable IP address address other than 10 or 192.Your help is highly appreciated.Thanks,SUNNY.

You can't just give yourself a routable IP from a global IP space. If you could, there would be mass confusion between devices because you could easily "make up" an IP and end up causing a conflict. So that's why private networks are private and separate from public.[N]F

The website https://www.whatismyip.com/?refid=wimi.com (which appears to be part of whatismyip.com) says it can identify a mobile device's ip.
Depending on your service provider, your ip could change every time you connect to the network if it's assigned by dhcp.
If you're just watching streaming video this should not be necessary, as port requests would be forwarded to the private ip you see from ipconfig (beginning in 10 or 192). But, if the connection you need to make requires access to a certain port, you should double-check your firewall or proxy to allow that port through.

Perhaps you could elaborate on exactly what won't connect.

Hope it helps!

Everybody who is connected to the internet uses a public IP address, this address is usually assigned to your router. Your computers however, are configured to be in a private network and that's why your computer has a private 10.x.x.x address.

The router does all the necessary translations so your private network is able to communicate with the public network.

What you need to do is to setup port forwarding on your router. This simply tells your router that data all data arriving at a certain port (on the public address) must be forwarded to an certain pc in your private network.

For example, if your public IP is 62.1.2.3 and you set port forwarding to forward port 80 to 10.154.22.136:80, everybody surfing to http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ will be redirected to YOUR computer.
