Fedora Core 5 Under Virtual Pc

Recommended Posts

Has anyone got Fedora Core 5 running under Microsoftâs Virtual PC? I have been using http://vpc.visualwin.com/ as a reference which says it is possible. I lowered my RAM to 624 MB and finally got the installation to work. My problem now is when it start up the login screen is very distorted. I suspect a bad video card driver but I have no idea on how to change it.

P.S. I know this is not directly related to this group but I figured this was the best place.

I had the same problem with vmware workstation and Mandrake 10, Mandrake 9.2 had the same problem, I had to go back to mandrake 9.1 in order to have a correct screen. Exactly as if the emulator could emulate device for old drivers, and was unable to work correctly for the new video drivers.

Try configuring Xorg to use Vesa Framebuffer. Not as fast as the optimised driver, but an excellent failsafe.

I haven't done it with FC5, but I have done it with SuSE 10. Personally, if I were you, turn down your virtual RAM for that virtual PC. Perhaps there isn't enough RAM left for your video card? I'm not exactly sure how RAM for video cards works (I'm a network expert. My friends come to me more or less for networking issues than anything else). But I'd take the RAM down to like 512 MB or something like that.[N]F

Since I am below a newbie on Linux, how would one do this from the command line?
