sparx 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2006 (edited) Microsoft Live Mesenger 8 BETA and Yahoo Messenger 8 with Voice BETA are now allowing users to add contacts from each others' service. That means a user of MSN messenger or Windows Live Messenger 8 BETA as it's called now can add, view status, send an instant message, include emoticons and send nudges/buzzes to contacts who are using Yahoo Messenger. As of now, you can't send or share files, view common backgrounds, winks and other more complex actions between the two services. The same also applies to users of Yahoo Messenger with Voice 8 - they can add users of the MSN service to their yahoo messenger contact list. Before you can start using the services, you need to sign up for the BETA and agree to the EULA and any other agreements after which you'll be led to the download page. Initial testing indicates that it works as advertised. In Y! Messenger, a drop-down box allows you to select between the srvices available when you try to add a new contact. WLM has a more transparent method wherein you just type in the contacts name followed by his/her yahoo domain (Example: user1@yahoo.com; user32@yahoo.co.in etc.) LINKS: Yahoo Messenger US Yahoo Messenger India Windows Live Messenger More info for WLM Edited July 13, 2006 by sparx (see edit history)
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2006 Hey I tried this with WLM i.e. tried adding Yahoo contact by specifying the full YM username+domain. But WLM keeps telling me that the contact ID entered is not a valid IM ID.Maybe this isn't fully operation yet - although when you go to the new contact addition screen in WLM, there's this small notice on top talking about YM and WLM interoperability.Have you managed to add contacts successfully in WLM ? Jeigh1405241495 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2006 I'll have to try this when I get home... I only use yahoo for talking to a handful of people so it'd be nice to just merge my lists and stop using YIM entirely. Woo for ridding of redundant software haha.Make sure if anyone does this to let us know

Maybe this isn't fully operation yet - although when you go to the new contact addition screen in WLM, there's this small notice on top talking about YM and WLM interoperability. Have you managed to add contacts successfully in WLM ? Actually .. this is possible now .. finally M$ thought that invites werent good enuf to test its new feature. Here's what you do to get your Yahoo Contacts to MSN or vice-versa .. 1)Get the latest WLM version from >>HERE<< 2) IF you have the latest, then go to this link >>HERE<< 3) Sign out and Sign in Again into WLM. 4) Add a yahoo contact in WLM as : someone@yahoo.com & the person will be sent a accept request in yahoo. As for the Yahoo guys .. the same procedure applies .. 1) Get the latest Yahoo Messenger with Voice from >>HERE<< 2) Then go >>HERE<< 3) Sign out and then sign into yahoo messenger. 4) Add a WLM contact in yahoo as : someone@hotmail.com & since there is no acceptence policy in MSN .. you will just be notified that a yahoo contact has added you tru a pop up toast. Have fun .. Regards Dhanesh.
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2006 O hello sir I've got both done long back. I mean the final release of WLM installed as well as the Win Live signup. Still it's showing me a random error - just says that the ID is an invalid IM ID.
dhanesh1405241511 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2006 O hello sir I've got both done long back. I mean the final release of WLM installed as well as the Win Live signup. Still it's showing me a random error - just says that the ID is an invalid IM ID. lol .. ok i thought i was the only smartest person around .. newayz .. well did u try steps 1 and 2 for MSN .. if yes then still please try it again ... If the yahoo account isnt adding .. then i guess the yahoo person ALSO has to do step 2 & 3 (for yahoo accounts ofcourse). I tried with my self adding my yahoo account .. and it worked .. I spend like 5 mins chatting to myself .. lol Ohh BTW guys, 1 more important thing. If anyone is using MessengerLive Plus! then you will come accross a few renaming bugs (like msn contacts change to 1 and yahoo contacts change to 32) after you sign up in step 2 .. because you shift to a new protocol called MSNP14. In this case do not worry, a MsgPlus! update is on the way in a few days ... Source: Mess.be Regards Dhanesh.

HellFire121 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2006 heh this came as a bit of a surprise.. i never thought microsoft would team up with yahoo.. anyways i have no use for this feature because 99% of the people i know just use windows live but i suppose its a good feature for people that don't want to have 2 IM addresses.-HellFire
dhanesh1405241511 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2006 Well .. seems like M$ was serious about the number of people signing up for this. If you did then fine ... but if you didnt, then i suggest you do so soon cause M$ would shut down registrations on a limit of 500,000 users .. Hey jo .. want me to add u up with your yahoo account ? .. RegardsDhanesh.
Barako 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2006 Hmm... that sounds like a good idea, but the large differences between the messengers might pose a problem, I think. Still, I think I might try it out... although I don't have many contacts on Yahoo, it would still be a fun experiment to try. ^^I hope it works!
nightfox1405241487 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2006 You know, on a business stand point, this looks like there's something going on between Microsoft and Yahoo... well, we already know Microsoft HATES Google so it sounds like something is going on between the two companies...[N]F
souradipm 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2006 Hey, it just so happened, one day before I signed up, I downloaded Windows live Messenger. It came with this add on. What a strange co-incidence... I really think there is something going on with Yahoo and Microsoft. Of course, Barako, it is only the voice calls that are connected, I think.~souradipm
vizskywalker 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2006 I have bpth betas, and they both accept either kind of user as a contact. But WLM never shows the yahoo contatcs as online, and it's a fifty-fifty shot as to whether or not it works with yahoo! and the WLM users. Any ideas?~Viz

Basically they just want to get the Yahoo users with a theoretically better and better-looking messenger. They wouldn't be as successful if they chose to do the same with AIM/ICQ users, for example, or even some open-sourced networks, where you can choose from lots of messaging programs (often much better then MSN, AIM, etc).Dreaming is for free, so it wouldn't be that terrible (someday) having just to choose a program, because all networks are fully linked up. That day I'd finally getting weird messages from MSN in Miranda... yeah, for sure. Edited August 15, 2006 by KDEWolf (see edit history)
