tansqrx 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2009 (edited) How to copy text from a Command Prompt (the easy way) I find myself at the command prompt frequently and copy/paste is essential. You can set the preferences to more permanently facilitate copy/paste. 1. Right click the title bar and select properties. 2. On the Options tab check Quick Edit Mode. 3. Click OK. 4. A new window will appear asking how you would like to save these changes, select Save properties for future windows with same title. Now when you need to copy something from the command line, use your mouse to make the selection (similar to selecting icons in Windows Explorer). Once you have what you want selected, hit the Enter key and it is saved to the clipboard. If you want to paste, right click the mouse and the clipboard will be pasted where the cursor is. This method takes some getting used to but Ctrl+C cannot be used at the command line because it has the special property of issuing a break and stopping any current processing. Ctrl+C was in DOS well before the idea of copy/paste so it gets priority by virtue of time. Edited May 29, 2009 by tansqrx (see edit history)

You can stop a user from accessing the command prompt by using Group Policy. You must be an Administrator on the machine to use the Group Policy Editor or make any changes so make sure your account has these permissions. A fairly useful Microsoft Knowledge Base article is located at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/products/windows and tells you how to run Group Policy Editor. There are many options from disabling screensavers to disabling the command prompt, just look for the one that applies to you. This is higly unlikely since there is no such built-in feature. He is probably using running a external program to filter URLs using a blacklist or whitelist, or using the default Windows HOSTS file to redirect some of your URL requests to a none existent website. Because it will cause some unneed access to the insert mode. If you have done a comparsion with windows 2000 and windows xp. You will found that windows xp had changed it from enabled to disable. As I still works with both windows 2000 and windows xp. I do not like or need it by default. To access the insert mode, just right-click over the command-prompt and choose mark, and now can start mark the text to be copy; and press enter to copy the text to the system clipboard. iGuest 3 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 How To unban/ban sites using command promptCommand Prompt TipsYeah I agree. He is using what is known as the 'bounce' technique. It is the same technique used at schools. When you input a swear word, a type of code searches the documents for any swear words that are saved and updated into a list. I only know of 1 such a code which is visual basic 6.0. I have used it for this same purpose. Its done by writing code for the exported program which is comtinuously running in the background. When ever a URL is sent through the computer, it searches any matches for that URL. If the is a match, command code tells the computer not to retrieve information from this site. It is done using a .Bat file. You can normally stop this by going into task manager clicking on process and it should be in the saved under something like vbscript, or comVB, or Command. If none of this works, I assume he is using your internet security options which you can get into using control panel. Somewhere in there should be a list of things that are allowed and things that are not allowed through your firewall. He may have put the site under 'Blocked'.Keywords:
iGuest 3 Report post Posted November 5, 2009 How to add a program so it is regocnizable as an external command in cmdCommand Prompt Tips I'm both a Windows user and a Linux user but whenever I am navigating in the cmd prompt within Windows I usually end up typing 'ls' (the Linux version of 'dir') and Windows reports back to me that ls is not a valid command. Well I finally got sick of it an decided to add ls functionality to my cmd prompt. To do this I downloading GNU ls for Windows from here: https://u-tools.com/msls And moving the file 'ls.Exe' into my System 32 folder, unfortunately 'ls' still did not work for me, this is how I fixed it (this will work for anyone attempting to run a program as an external command from the System 32 folder through the cmd prompt): I edited my PATH variable in my system's environmental variables if you do not know how to do this here is a nice tutorial: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000549.htm I edited the value of the variable to include "%SYSTEMROOT%System32" without the quotes. If you have anthing else in the value make sure to serperate it and this with a ; There you go! You've just added a program as an external command for your Windows cmd prompt.-reply by Natooka
