ebbinger_413 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2005 i have a laptop (really really old) and i am messing around with it. got it for free and dont really care about it. but i was wondering if there were any operating systems (such as dos or sumtin...possibly even a 32bit gui os) that i can run from floppy. seeing as since the bios is so old that it doesnt support boot from cd...or maybe someone can link me to a bios update...its a sager 8600 series (np8620 to be exact)...:)are there any floppy img downloads that maybe have an autorun file that will make it boot from cd...e.g. reads floppy, floppy tells system to boot from cd...?anyways...what i really want is an operating system on a floppy disk...seeing as the hard drive crapped out and i havent replaced it yet (will when i come to find one). do they even make 32-bit gui os for floppy ? Written entirely in x86 Assembly language, it supports a GUI and even comes with a web and MP3 server! The list of features includes: * pre-emptive multitasking, multithreading, ring-3 protection * graphical UI with 16 M colours up to 1280Ă1024 * faster programming language than in Win, Linux, .. * ide: editor/compiler for assembly kernel and applications * kernel and application sources included (GPL) * TCP/IP stack with PPP & Ethernet drivers * http/mp3/email servers, 3D maze * free-form, skinnable application windows * hard real-time data fetch * fits in a single floppy ! There are many small little apps that you can also download to make this OS a little more fun!Source: http://www.digitalmediaminute.com/article/108 Just google for "os from floppy" or "os on floppy" and you'll find plenty of more links to similar stuff.Regards,m^e

You can get a floppy version of Microsoft Windows 3.11 for Workgroups; just click the link below to download it; insert a blank floppy disk; run it and type A:/ in the destination folder textbox and the program will automatically extract all the boot files to a floppy disk after its done just take the floppy disk out of your floppy drive and put it in your old laptop and start it up and the boot disk will start up. This boot disk also come with MS-DOS 7.11.http://ww1.worldfreeweb.com//?gtnjs=1 Edited March 23, 2006 by nickjuly4 (see edit history)
luizzeross 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2006 Menuet OS really is nice! So small and cool. But there are some Linux on Floppy too!
DAC1138 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2007 MenuetOS does look really nice, but I'd still suggest something he can use, like linux on a floppy. Tomsrtb is a good one I've used. Using liux over something like MenuetOS will ensure he can have a bigger range of software. With MenuetOS, he's limited to whatever they provide. Say he wants to get into html or writing, he can use vim or emacs in linux, wheras if he used MenuetOS he would be at the mercy of whatever the coders for that OS have created. I'm not syaing there's anything wrong with MenuetOS, but I'm just saying think of all the programs that are for linux.
xboxrulz1405241485 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2007 actually Windows 98 can be installed by "boot from floppy" technique. Just make a Windows 98 bootup floppy disc to start, then insert the Windows 98 disc and then launch setup.exe off the floppy.xboxrulz
