darkool 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2005 (edited) Some computer's are sold with windows XP pre installed and with FAT32 FORMAT, so there is a way to change it without data loss. Go do MS-DOS and type convert c: /fs:ntfs, dont forget to change the drive c:\, d:\ , e:\ for the one that you wanna convert . PS : This process is impossible to return to FAT32, once you convert you can't turn back , unless you format your pc cheers m8's Edited November 7, 2005 by microscopic^earthling (see edit history)

WeaponX 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2005 To add to this, there is a way to convert NTFS back to FAT32 (from what I found). dhanesh, I assume when you said that the user can use Partition Magic, you meant that they can convert FAT32 to NTFS instead of using the XP convert command right? But Partition Magic can also do the reverse from my findings. The program will set you back about $70 if you buy the newest version (less if you look for older versions on eBay). Just took a look myself and on the left panel under Partition Operations, there's a feature called Convert partition. Click on that and FAT32 is listed (I'm using XP with NTFS now). iGuest 3 Report post Posted December 30, 2007 Change back to FAT32 Convert Fat32 To Ntfs Without Data Loss (dos-mode) Â Hi, You can use a LOW LEVEL formatting tool found at MAXTOR.COM to do this. Then you have to use a boot ME disk to create a partition and format it to FAT32. Time consuming but it will do it. Â -Joe Black

RepulsiveCoder 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2008 It says that disk is to be defragmantedNo disk spaceI think you need to free disk space of your partition. Approximately 15% free space is required for defragmentation.Sometime the convertion reuires to do defragment, don't worry about that.Try to free up some space and run the command again, if fails then try to defragment manually and then try to convert.Have a nice time.
