Mysql 5.0 Launched As Of Today. Production Release

????[/tab]Finally, the long awaited and much debated MySQL 5.0 (after long months of continuous minor upgrades and bug testing) has been released, as of 24th October, 2005. With the new release comes some really cool and exciting features that had priorly been missing from MySQL. Some of them are:

# Stored Procedures and SQL Functions -- to embed business logic in the database and improve performance;# Triggers -- to enforce complex business rules at the database level;
# Views -- to ensure protection of sensitive information;
# Cursors -- to allow easier database development and reference of large datasets;
# Information Schema -- to provide easy access to metadata;

????With this new release MySQL has become a true contender in the high-end SQL Server segment. The new list of impressive features places it very close on the heels of the industry giants Oracle and its likes. Not to mention its still FREE and opensource as ever.

That's a great news..Version 5.0 is the most ambitious release to date for MySQL ABMySQL is not a toy any more. It is an Enterprise class product now with those new features.HP and IBM are supporters as well....it may change how MySQL is perceived in the market.If you've been waiting for any of those features, give MySQL 5.0 a try

I'll be downloading that soon. Query, this shouldn't be a problem, but webware developed with the earlier version of MySQL, for example vBulleting and IPB, will they still work. I know this sounds stupid, but with the change in structure and features of the new MySQL, is it possible that it could becom corrupt?
