The Hacker's Google A template for the SE - can you read it?

Recommended Posts

Yeah, as everyone says, it's really old. I think someone here mentioned it a while back, but I'm not sure...
Some of the languages Google do are funny though, like Bork, Bork, Bork! and Pig Latin. Gmail is available in quite a few languages too, but they're mainly "proper" languages though. They're currently working on translating Gmail into other languages too, and I've asked to be included in the translating team for Pig Latin!

You're on the Pig Latin team?! WOW!!! I can't believe it! I'm on TV, mommy!! :D
Yeah, I've seen these things. Google are just a t-shirt corporation in my mind... no suits! Only t-shirts! All day, every day! I mean, they take their customers seriously, of course, but at the same time provide so much casualness in their service, and I find that admirable.

Yeah I've seen that quite a few times... it's still pretty cool though. I think they also have some other language types and stuff.

Although Id have to say my favourite google novelty is definitely the google april fools jokes...

If you haven't seen them, check out these:

https://www.google.com/googlegulp/ - Google april fools joke: New google flavoured drinks! lol

https://www.google.com/jobs/lunar_job.html - Google Lunar jobs: Google is hiring to take people into space! haha

In fact they even have a special search engine JUST for searching things related to april fools! This one can be found at http://www.googleaprilfools.com/

Gotta love those people at google!

I bet many of you have seen the 1337 language? Well, I also bet most of you guys (or gals) haven't seen this! A new addition I found while ago...

Google - H4x0r

Don't read ahead if you want to try reading what it says in there!!

.

.

.

n0rM4L s34rCh = normal search

1|\/|4935 = images

6r00pZ = groops (groups) - this is a little tricky because the '6' is a capital 'G' and the two 'O's make a long 'O' sound

d1r3c70rY = directory

4|| 480u7 Google = all about Google

4DV4NC3D 534RC|-| = advanced search

PR3F3R3N(3Z = preferences

ÂŁ4|\|6Âľ463 700|5 = language tools - this is tricky too!

===So, what are you waiting for? Bookmark it in your toolbar folder!===

language

a = 4

b = 8

c = C

d = D

e = 3

f = F

g = 6

h = |-|

i = 1

j = J

k = K

l = |

m = |\/|

n = |\|

o = 0

p = p

q = Q

r = r

s = 5

t = 7

u = u

v = \/

w = \/\/

Not necessarilly. If you pay attention to the title of that language, it's 1337 5p34k, or LEET SPEAK. As you can see, here, 1 stands for L. So, there really isn't a standard, it's good as long as you can read it.

I've seen stuff like that for so many years, I don't even remember the first time I saw it. It had to be well over 10 years ago. Personally, I find that kind of "script" to be annoying to say the least... It may not have been in google back then, but that was around....

Yeah, it is way old...people have used that lame way of typing for a long time to try and make themselves feel special, I have noticed it in alot of MMO games. It's not leet or '1337' in any way, it is just (as yungblood said) annoying! ;)

Yeah, I agree that 1337 is really annoying. But it is quite funny to see it on Google's Language List, as you'd expect that list to contain mostly "official" languages, not some weird dialect of a real language like 1337 or Pig Latin or Bork! Bork! Bork!. I also wonder how people can manage to type in 1337 -- if it's on purpose, doesn't it take quite a bit of work to pull off?

Yeah, I like their April Fools jokes. But it's going to be a while before I get tricked again. :unsure: I've also heard that Gmail originally originated on April Fools Day, so everyone thought that Google was just playing an April Fools joke by announcing that they were offering an email service with so much space. Then eventually those people found out that Google was telling the truth and were shocked. XP

Oh wait, now I've noticed, there's a Wikipedia article that offers some translation. Wouldn't say its entirely comprehensive, but it did do the best it could. :unsure:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leet. Then there are some sites that automatically do the translating for you, like this one: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and this one: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

And for Firefox users, there's even a 1337 translator extension, available here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Apparently this extension only translates from normal text to leet, but doesn't translate form leet back. Rather useless to me as I'd rather not translate what I write into leet. Back to English would be a lot better. :D

I don't really see the point of this. I guess it's interesting as a novelty thing, but it really doesn't help anybody. It doesn't solve any accessibility problems. It's cool that it is in there, but there really is no point. I guess the programmers at Google got bored, afterall, they ARE given a day a week to work on whatever project they want, on company time. I have heard of this, but I didn't know that Google adopted it.

This is just stupid laugh out loud! It doesn't even check a different database. I would think that the person that made this would have at least made a top result always advertising for there website. Compare the results to regular Google and they are exactly the same! The strange part is that it looks like Google is the domain name? Why would they do that now? Unless its combined with an outside program that also redirects the page.

Because in fact, they are both the same thing. This "hackerized" Google is just the result of selecting "hacker" language from the Preferences section of google. This is just another useless Google feature for fun, just like selecting the "Klingon" language (forgive me, Start Trek fellows), or the "Bork,Bork,Bork" one.

Anyhow, for the hacker's google, another way to access it is by visiting this address: http://www.600673.com/

Ahahaha. XD I didn't know you could access Google h4x0r there. Not that I'd want to use it. 1337 hurts my eyes. It's confusing. And, as popular as it is, I haven't seen anyone who was truly fluent in 1337 and actually writes in it.

Ooh, that's not made by Google. At the bottom, it says "This parody by Philipp Lenssen is unrelated to the real Google". So technically, this April Fool's search isn't by Google, though it looks a lot like Google. (Philip Lenssen is the blogger of "Google Blogoscoped", which is also known as "80% Google". So, perhaps it isn't completely shocking that Google April Fool's looks almost like the real Google, albeit a bit of padding/margin.)
