Wireless or not shouldn't matter. I don't recommend this ti a Dial up user. Broadband users may benefit from it, but BACK UP YOUR REGISTRY BEFORE EDITTING IT!!!!!!!!!! Broken Registry = reinstall of windows.So be very careful when attempting to do this "mod". Personally, I wouldn't do it, because I don't know much about registry editting. Vizskywalker knows enough LOL if he says it's ok, then I do trust him.

I think an explanation of what the registry edit actually does is on it's place here.Windows has limited the maximum number of connections to one server to 2 or 4, don't really remember which one. Most of the time this will be enough, since every internet connection has it's limit and with too high a setting your connection should be acting weird.But since mostly everyone's on a *dsl/cable/anyother high speed subscription which has more throughput, it can be usefull for you to set this number up higher.Obviously this won't work great miracles though, such a thing can boost your download speed a teensy bit if you do stuff that requires multiple connections alot (webbrowsing for instance). Loading images should go faster, but it won't matter to much for downloading like... big files or something. Since for example downloading with 4 connections with both 25 kb/sec doesn't really outspeed 8 connections that runs on 12,5kb/sec.The hack is just something that enables more simultaneous downloads, not greater speeds. Keep that in mind.ps. 56k user should consider getting broadband, also, i'd not use this registry hack if I were you. (see above example with the 25k/sec and 12,5 kb/sec).

I don't really like editing the registry, for things i am confident with it isn't really a problem. There are a number of risks here:1. Broken registry (which would mean a trashed windows)2. No internet access (I doubt this but it still could happen)3. Slowed internet access (If anything does go wrong, this is more than likely to happen).The easiest way to get more out of your connection is to simply upgrade your speed :lol:Also, those programs that claim to speed up your internet access don't really work (in my opinion anyway) so just a warning!-HellFire

This probably won't pose any problems. I think this trick only applies to Internet Explorer, because Opera has such a setting built-in (Tools>Prefs>Network).

3. Absolutely right. Those programs change settings like ttl etc, but changing such settings can even result in worse performance caused by lost packages (yes, they can get lost). And lost packages means, re-request of the package and all the other protocols.

The great thing about high-speed connections is that many people can get them for just a little more than a dial-up account. The only big problem is that home for me is in the middle of nowhere. We have to have dial-up (on old-old school party-line phone systems - ugh) or get a satellite connection. Unfortunately the satellite connection *isn't* just a little bit more than dial-up. So, for anybody else in a situation like that: you have my sympathies *Grins*

And yep - Firefox definitely makes a difference in surfing speed. I love this browser. As for Opera: I wouldn't know because I haven't tried it in years, but I've heard that it's really good too so I'll leave that up for actual users to judge *smiles*
