Really good for Windows platforms.I bookmarked the site in order to download some of these utilities.Did you notice that source code is also available.Click the tab information to reach the article "Sysinternal at Microsoft". Sysinternals tools are used heavily by Microsoft developers and support personnel. another nice tool is the ACMP Network Inventory Tool. You can download a free version. The Inventory-Results are Stored in a DB (MSDE2000) - so you can process easy the Results with Programs written by yourself.
