hazeshow 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2005 Yes, Oracle offers database software for enterprise use. Oracle and IBM are the "big players" in this market, Oracle Database 10g vs. IBM's DB2. Their software sure is not comparable to MS Access or stuff like that. It's designed for large networks, SAN's and Clusters. If you register at OTN (Oracle Technology Network) you can download most of their software for free, you then get a developer license. Of course they do also have database software for standalone computers. Anyway, I don't know much about Oracle, but one thing I know is this: Such courses usually are funky expensive! So I think you can be lucky to learn this stuff in college. Have fun! GreetingZ
solankyno1 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2005 HI Leigh, Oracle is a famous DataBase Management System (DBMS). Now I am sure that question comes in your mind - what is DBMS????? For this you have to learn first what is "Data". I will give you one very simple example. Suppose you have your personal phone book or diary. In this phone book there are names of your friends or relatives and in front of their names you have written their respective phone numbers. In every phone book phone nos are arranged in Alphabetical order ie on first page there will be names starting with A and so on. If their is no such order if will be difficult for you for finding the phone numbers of your friends. This phone book(System) had followed a rule so that your phone no and friend names ( Data) can be arranged (Managed) in such a way so that you can retireve the information very easily. This is very small DBMS . In the corportate filed where big companies and organaisation have to manage their data they need big and powerful DBMS softwares. The best DBMS software available in the regard is 'Oracle' which you are going to read. The owner of this software is Oracle Corporation. (https://www.oracle.com/index.html) . Other examples are Microsoft SQL Server, Sybase, MySQL etc.I hope this small effort of mine will be useful for you. I am sorry if I have increase your problem rather than solving it. flachi 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2005 If you want to learn Oracle you can find and join to the one of the Oracle Academy schools from your country. Look at the Oracle website to find it. In Romania there are 2 or 3 Oracle Academies. You must learn Oracle very good and then pass some tests. After you finish all this with a high grade you will recive a developer certificate, a very important one.
