i actually wouldnt be surprised if that 'end of the world' video was accurate. blowing ourselves up doesnt seem to unbelievable considering some of the ruling being done throughout our world recently (no offense)

while i personally do not believe in the mayan calendar, i do not think pathofneo is 'unreal' in believing it.  do we all have to follow the georgian calendar set up by the Christian West? i do not think so.  if someone believs in the mayan, aztec, or vedic calendar they have every right to do so without westernised purists asking them to get real.

Do we have to follow the Georgian calendar? Of course! But you are reacting like so because it was founded by Christians. But not everybody does follow the Georgian calendar. Jews have their own, Chinese have their own. But there has to be one calendar we all accept. Otherwise everything would be a chaos. A long time ago every village had his own time. In Holland, for instance, it could be 10 o'clock in the Hague and 11.37 in Amsterdam. Today there is a GMT and you can make an appointment with anyone, anywhere, and they'll know when to meet you.

If every country would have their own calendar, how would you make an appointment? If somebody meets you at the eleventh, what day does he mean? Your calendar or his? So it's allright if people have their own calendar, but there must be a global calendar as well. And the normal thing to do is to use the calendar that is used most. So: the Gregorian one. And the calendar of tha Mayans ends in 2012. That is not really accurate. They had two calendars, one was 260 days and the other 360. There are periods when the new years start at the same day. On the 21 of december 2012 a new period of 5,200 and a period of 26,000 years start. The start of the World of the Fifth Sun. "The fifth cycle (Ajaw/sun) will be a fusion of both feminine and masculine energies. It will be a transition where there won't be any more confrontations between the polarities. It will bring balance and there won't be hierarchy of one over the other. Both energies will support each other. So the end of the world is actually the start of a new era, on a higher level. However this transformation will come after a lot of misery. But, looking back on the 1040's, I think we had our misery. So the world will not end, PathofNeo, at all. Are you familiar with the Mayans?

20 years from now i see us the same as we are now, looking towards the future...we will have run out of oil many animals, i believe will be dead but, still we will be thinking about the future...

i was talking about this kind of stuff the other day with my dad and he pointed out something very intersting - 20 years ago everyone lived in the cold and thought that the world was going to end with nuclear war between usa and russia, that obviously didnt happen so lets be optimistic.Im sure things will change though - power, agriculture,socialology,etcIm sure that China and India will be big if not super powers and the usa's strenght will diminish and possbily the eu will become more powerfull and hopefully the UN will be a stronger influence - Kofi Anan for world president!!!Mainly i hope for world socialism but thats not all that likey

It think it is pretty clear that we are walking on a razor's edge. Technology keeps increasing the destructive power of the single individual and individuals continue to show that there plenty who have the will to use that power to destroy everything. Life does not offer much security except to the deluded. It is nothing new. Life is still a jungle and survival is an everyday issue, but the scope and stakes may have changed. It is now the whole human race and even the whole planet that survives on the barest thread of hope and faith.

Well I think it is pretty obvious that someone will be getting bombed in twenty years from now but I wonder who it will be, throw a dart at a map and push the button. We will still be far to self absorbed to realize that the enviroment has been so devistated that it will be unable to recover from the stuff we have done to it, let alone really care about it and go back to sitting in front of the computer again.Technology will advance, but only slightly, lets face it technalogical advancement has dropped to a snails pace, but none the less it will still advance, but I am sure there will be an even better ipod out by then too.I still don't really see space travel being plausable around that time, only to that spacestation thing and back. Yup thats pretty much it!

Well, since this topic is about the future and technology, I'm wondering if anyone has read "There Will Come Soft Rains" by Ray Bradbury. It's a short story about a futuristic house in the year 2026. The house runs by itself, and it's owners die in an atomic blast.So I believe that things considered "impossible" to us now may actually be feasible in 20 or so years. 100 years ago, didn't man think that we couldn't fly in the air? It was thought to be impossible, but the Wright brothers soared in the air. We as humans must broaden our minds, and no longer think so narrowmindedly.

Yeap. Technology is advancing so quickly. 5 years ago, computer scientists and engineers thought a 20-megabit connection would come around in 2010. What is it now, uhhh 2005? Heh... that was pretty fast!!Let's see, if you guys watch The Island, a sci-fi movie directed by Michael Bay, you'll see clones, a futuristic version of X-box, transparent glass walls that can project images and videos, etc. I mean, that can happen! Maybe in 10 years...However, I don't think human cloning is a good idea. It goes against ethics, morals, values, and human rights. What are we, playing God? Nope...

In twenty years, I don't think it will be too futuristic, but I know we will have a lot of things never thought possible. 1. The gaming systems, I think, will be extraordinary. Probably virtural reality, 3D games and such. Perhaps the graphics will even be lifelike...That would be pretty cool. 2. Cars...No doubt in my mind that cars will be tons faster. I think in 20 -30 years, gas will be obsolete, and hydrogen will be in. The next stop after that would be...flying cars. :D3. Global Warming: I think this will still be a problem, and will have gotten plenty worse. 4. Disease: I think most, if not all, deadly diseases of today will be cured. I am hoping AIDS will be cured by then, as well as cancer. Though, I am guessing more diseases will have popped up by then. 5. Space travel: The way we are today, and the way we were 30 years ago with space, IMO, is a lot different. I believe there will be more people, not just astronauts in space. Not like Star Wars or anything, just people who can afford the millions, and billions of dollars to do it. I thought I would list out a few important things in my eyes, and tell how I think they would have changed. I hope you guys think that's okay.

Twenty years ago, you'd have laughed at me if I had said: "In twenty years, we will be drinking bottled water." I think that in twenty years from now, we will be breathing bottled air.I think we are polluting this planet immensely, I'm not an environmentalist, I'm just saying at this rate, we are headed for catastrophic environmental happenings. Crap, how could I forget about aliens? I don't believe that there will be any aliens in our planet in 20 years. Though, I have a suspician that we would have found a planet with inhabitants on them, or something. Perhaps, in the next 50-60 years we will have reached it. I don't know, I may be thinking too soon....What do you guys believe on this?

I disagree with this, we haven't got the technology to do so. Assuming we could travel the speed of light, it would take over 10, 000 years to reach the next galaxy, let alone planet with life. Theoretically, suspended animation would be sufficient enough to keep someone alive that distance, however, there isn't enough fuel to travel that distance.Even if we could, there's no guarantee we'll find life in our neighbourhood galaxy, Andromeda (I think), so this means we must travel farther.Assuming we had the technology to do this practically, we must race the universe, which is expanding everyday, here's some numbers: the Earth's revolving at nine hundred miles an hour, orbiting at nineteen miles a second, the everything we can see is moving at a million miles a day. Our galaxy, the "Milky Way", is a spiral shaped galaxy, our solar system is located on an outer spiral arm. It's a hundred thousand light years side to side, in the middle it's sixteen thousand light years thick, where we are it's just three thousand light years thick. We're thirty thousand light years from the center of our galaxy, and go around every two hundred million years, at a speed of forty thousand miles an hour.A race we are definitely not going to win...

In the future - maybe 20 years, maybe 50 - technology will be straight out of our craziest sci-fi novels. Computers will rock so hard we'll wonder how we ever managed without two-terrahertz processors. MP3 players will hold our entire library of music. We might not have that many CDs then, but we'll have thousands of albums on a player small enough to fit into our watch pockets.And ... here's my big hope ... I'll be able to get cell phone reception at my Mom's house *grins*

Twenty years from now....I will expect hybrid cars, people will live way longer, and the US will be overflowing with a lot more immigrants. If there really is a war, it can be the end of the world with all the nukes every country have. Who knows, we might have colonize the moon so we won't die from radioactive radation.

Hi,Here's what I think shall happen in twenty years:1.) First of all, scientists shall find out how to use alternate sources of energy to the fullest effect and they will also find a basic cure to AIDS (I hope so!)2.) Then, I think that computers shall become extremely advanced, so will the internet. Don't forget new sorts of televisions and cell phones! New gadgets shall be invented and the world of gaming will change.3.) Now, I think that new technology will also change our means of transport by a considerable amount. I guess cars will be able to fly, they shall have a much higher speed and shall be more computerized. I think that people living in Arizona shall be able to go to New York for lunch and come back! Two other things related to travel which man has never achieved may/may not be achieved in about 20 years: teleportation and time travel.4.) I guess new galaxies and stars shall be discovered (maybe aliens as well!)5.) By then, I think that scientists shall be able to create their own living creatures. That would be simply awesome!
