Recommended Posts

hello. i have a new web site. i just made it and i cant put any of my stuff on it. i have .htm files on my computer, and i know how to use my FTP program (Transmit). i know my password and username. i just cant figure out the server. i thought i knew it, but apparently not. the site (not up) is marginoferror.com. i thought it was ftp.marginoferror.com, i even tried all the other URL's they sent me in the e-mail. if anyone has any suggestions i could use them, thanks.

Well, I still use my original address I got before I got the domain name  But what login did you use? for me it would be something like username@other-net.com and then my root password (which of course I am not supplying LOL). I don't know how your ftp client works, but I would assume it's the same as all the other ones out there. The address I connect to is indeed ftp.other-net.com (as I said - this is in MY case). Maybe you would be best off contacting your hosting company to see where the issue lies, because you're not hosted here and perhaps their system is different from here :)

Well .. i use a flashfxp ftp client to upload my files to a web server. This programs is very easy, you only put your user name , and your password... your ip or server address.. but some servers need to disable a passive mode of the client to conect.. because .. in some serves if you have active the option of passive mode in you ftp client.. dont connect... well.. try with this program... i use a lot. :P

Something is wrong with the information you are providing. I could not find a website with http://www.marginoferror.com/, or even without the http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ may also be subscribing to a hosting service that do not allow ftp access. Check the hosting site again. If your site is up there would be a home page displayed by the hosting site until you change it.Take your time and go back through what is offered to you by the hosting site and what your actual site name is.

Using ftp clients on various web hosts requires different infomation to be sent, usually in the case of a subdomain the ftp address will still be the main domain for example dhost.info. I have a subdomain there and the address to the site is http://dhost.info/content/view/104/ for me to ftp though the ftp address is ftp.dhost.info then I use a user name that was provided from the host (until I changed it to somthing that made sense) and my password was also assigned (which I also changed to make more sense) other web hosts may allow ftp acces by using a subdomain ftp address but I haven't seen too much of that.

The user that had the question about ftp might have to use the address of
ftp.marginoferror.com and it is even possible but not likely that it is an anonymous account with no password required but not very likely as anyone could go wreck that site with their own ftp client. se they will have a username and password either that they chose themselves or that was emailed to them when they opened their account.

I haven't tried the site until just now and it is nonexistent this could be a spelling error, but with that spelling it is not there.

Maybe the original poster will come back with more info about their account and get some further help with their problem
