The Future Of Gaming

It will really only depend on how the advanced technology will be and how the researchers will choose to ADAPT it to each game.Tell me, now, what freaks you out the most in the gaming industry, if not how scary game will be o.o (picture the ultimate generation Silent Hill game here O.O)

I think that in a few years, graphics will not be the main commercial reason to buy a new hardware. As microsoft who try to link pc's, xbox and everything in your home, video games will be like the mobile phone: you will play 10% of the time you spend on your xbox for example :o it's a sad way to imagine the futur, i hope it will not become like that. :PThe scrariest game ever is Condemned on 360... you have to play with it and you will forget all silent hill and resident evil...

First I must comment - Whoever said Doom 3 was unoriginal because it rehashed old FPS's concepts...uh...it was a retelling of the story of the first...so obviously it was rehashed... but I digress...I think we'll see a combination of less graphical importance AND huge graphical importance... just not all at once. Soon we'll see games top out for what a screen can produce, the game producer will realize that they need to get original not better looking. EA recently stated they are going to start focusing on original game ideas instead of churning out rehashed sports games only. If EA of all companies realizes they need to start thinking like this, times could be a-changin.This will probably last a fair while, couple generations, where tech advancements only allow more creativity in games and not necessarily graphical advancement. Eventually, however, I assume we will move into home VR type situations where it'll begin this graphical war all over again. I mean the processing power to produce a believable VR sim would be huge comparatively to a game on a computer (unless you just mean VR like wearing headgear with a screen... I mean VR similar to matix style, actually feeling imersed in this realm be it through direct connection or creative headsets)It's sad that Laos' point is so valid haha. I can see VR being implemented for adult entertainment more rapidly once introduced then for gaming. Porn is easier to...er...'create' then a video game heh.

I think the next big thing that will come out of the gaming industry is virtual reality in its simplist form. You have to look at it this way. Way back when we started off with what, an atari or something like it. Slowly through the years storylines got better, then graphics. It took some time. I don't expect anything big from VR for sometime and I will probably have artritis by the time it looks anywhere near decent so I'm not even going to enjoy that notion.

You know, it's gotten to the point now where I really don't care too much about games anymore. Mainly because no one is creating games that I like to play. Growing up I loved flight sims and space combat games. The last great space combat sim was Freespace 2. Great game, but didn't sell. Before my PC finally died (I run on Macs because I work with FCP and Lightwave) I was still playing Falcon 4.0 (I paid $15 for the game in 1998/9), Xwing Allinace, and FreeSpace 2. The other of genre of games I liked were "tactical" games. In particular the Clancy Rainbow 6 series and the first Ghost Recon series. There was some skill and thinking involved, just not run around and blow people up. Online play was fun, for the most part, too. I have a PS2 with the following games:Ghost ReconGhost Recon: Island ThunderStar Wars: Battle FrontNeed for Speed IIWhen Rainbow 6-3 game out on the consoles, the game just didn't seem right compared to the PC. There was little customization, and the game felt too arcadish like all the other FPS games out there. Felt more like I was playing Rambo, not the more realistic approach that was part of PC games. Same thing with Ghost Recon 2. I hated it. Felt like I was playing an arcade shooter. The Ports of the PC version of Ghost Recon to the PS2 seemed to play much better and felt more realistic than GR2. When Falcon 4.0 Allied Force was released last year, I almost bought a new PC just to play it. But saving for grad school was more important. Once Battlefront II reaches $20, I'll buy, but still that game is more fun to play with friends. Bottom line, these games that are released today just don't interest me that much. They aren't titles I want to play. I'd love to see a new F-15 or F-22 accurate flight sim. Or one where to you could fly the Eurofighter or even the Rafle.

I want to buy a box shaped like an airplane cockpit, with changable between WWII and Modern, Either Shooting nazis into Flames, landing 50 ppl, or dodging SCUMS and sending Iraqis to hell, A virtual Reality, with Joystick, warnign systems, beeps, etc. so realistic i'd get airsick :oThats what the future is bringing, quickly

i still don't see why we have to be so pessimistic. nintendo can always be counted on to deliver the quality goods. have some imagination, lacking.while the game cube had far fewer titles then the PS2 or death-box, it had just as many high quality ones, if not more.



I agree. Nintendo has actually had a better ratio in high quality. Less games, but all the mroe better. Unlike Sony and Xbox who has had many games, but only handfull of great titles.

Again i agree, Nintendo is taking the right step in Next Gen gaming. I mean my friend pointed out that games are getting too realistic. The point of video games was first to get away from reality. I hope thigns go well for Nintendo and hope they make gaming into a whole new experience. Something that will shape the future of gaming.

If virtual reality become 100% lifelike, what if pepole get so immersed in the game that they don't know that they're living in the real world or not?They could forget about the real world and go on living in the game world until his/her system breaks down.By that time, they might be trapped in the virtual world for a few years already.
