Why you should switch to Firefox now The GDIplus vulnerability

Recommended Posts

This is about a new flaw in Internet Explorer and how it renders one of the most common image formats in the web, the "JPEG". The code that enables a hacker to exploit this flaw is out to the public and therefore in a matter of a couple of weeks, we'll be expecting a new virus that uses this exploit. The GDIplus DLL (Graphic Device Interface plus) or gdiplus.dll is only enabled in Windows 2000 & XP. So if you're running on an older version of Windows and if you've upgraded to XP SP2, then you're not vulnerable to this exploit. Read more about it here

*switching to Firefox is the first step, but not the whole solution. :)

Firefox is a secure and stable browser alternative to Internet Explorer. Most experts are advising users to switch to alternative browsers and Mozilla Firefox is one of the best, if not the best. If you wanna know more about it and where to get it, just click on the button in my sig. =)

hey hey...Everyone who wants something more than firefox just get Opera 7.5

Ā

Cool looking and strong browser!!!

I have nothing against Opera. It's fast and reliable but the free version comes with advertisements. Mozilla Firefox is absolutely 100% free, no ads. Firefox has lots of themes and extensions to customize your browser. It also has the security that a browser should have. :)

I have had theses problems too. But I find that Firefox is much faster than IE, and there are less security risks. That's enough to get me to migrate from IE to Firefox.-Julien

Im having probelms with Firefox a lot of sites i visut ask me to download Flash, Java, etc even though ive got them all with IE before is there a version with most common things installed.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

If you install Mozilla Firefox, you really should install Flash, Shockwave, Java, etc. But is it really a big deal? With Firefox you get a fast, stable and most importantly, a secure browser. Once you have theses things installed, im sure you'll be happy you switched to Firefox. :)

Note: Mozilla Firefox users are advised to switch to Firefox Preview Release because Firefox 0.8 and Firefox 0.9.x suffer from a flaw in downloading which could lead to lost data. Read more about it https://blog.mozilla.org/press/2004/10/important-security-update-for-firefox-available/

Well, having tested firefox for a couple days, I find it a very nice alternative to IE. I especially love the fact that they have your most used bookmarks available towards the top of the browser, so all you do is click, rather than going through your favorites to find the site you go to every day. :)

Well of course you will need to download Flash, Java, and all that stuff. Didn't you do that for IE as well? It doesn't make a difference, because most sites are now making their sites geared towards browsers other than IE. I know my IPB is best viewed when in Mozilla/Netscape. The revolution's coming man, get ready for it :)

i agree... firefox was cool... but i hate waiting... firefox take longer to load den ie... and i wasn't happy that some site didn't display as i expected... i used for 2 weeks i change back to ie... not that firefox is not good... its excellent... but just tat i prefer speed... i dun store important stuff in my computer... i do format every few month... so having to keep installing firefox and setting it up would be a burden to me... so i dropped it... i will wait till it become better and try it again... but anyway... i still recommand people to install firefox... if they ask me which browser to choose from... :)
