In DIRE need of help about installing CGI

Recommended Posts

Trying to install the CGI script from Xisto for a counter on my site, but it doesn't work. Can anyone help me?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

If you would like to post the script, I could help, or give me more detail on why it's not working, make sure that your cgi script is chmod 755, read/write/execute for owners and read/write for group and users.

Alright, here's the script for the counter:

<img src="/cgi-sys/Count.cgi?df=chronoga.dat|display=Counter|ft=6|md=5|frgb=100;139;216|dd=K">

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

That's the correct way to use that script, have you tried previewing it in your cpanel to see if it's working from there? It should open up a frame to view the counter, you can then ask for the HTML code and it'll display it, from there you just reset it back to 0 and then write the HTML page for it.

A simple way would be

<html>
<head>
<title>
test
</title>
</head>
<body>
<img src="/cgi-sys/Count.cgi?df=chronoga.dat|display=Counter|ft=6|md=5|frgb=100;139;216|dd=K">
</body>
</html>

Test that with your site first, then reset it in cpanel and add it to your page where ever you want to set it up.

Well see, if you literally dissect that, it is pulling a 'Count.cgi' file from the 'cgi-sys' folder, and then it's looking for all this other stuff. :?

Hit me up on MSN and we'll talk more about it.

chronogamer28, if you can test it from your cpanel first, which is what you have to do to make sure it's all setup correctly, then it will show whether it's working, if not, then it's a fault that OpaQue would need to sort.

cgi-sys is a directory not seen by your hosting, it's a feature that's given wide access to when incorporated with cpanel. Your chronoga.dat file is your file that has the data for the counter and what it's set at, this is what cpanel will reset when you ask to reset it.

I know what you mean when you question cgi-sys, but you will have to trust me on that, as it does exist even if you can't see it.

Should I PM OpaQue about this? Hrm, I looked into my cgi-bin folder and it seems that there are some of the scripts that were mentioned in Cpanel's cgi-center, such as the random HTML generator and the banner thingy, but I thought all of the scripts should be in there, not just a few :?

Try the full path to it, Just add http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/? etc... to it, as you may not be linking correctly to it.

Other than that, PM OpaQue if all else fails.

I don't think the scripts are placed in your cgi-bin folder by default. If you want to use a particular cgi script, i think you have to install those scripts from cpanel (by following simple insructions).
