Adobe Photoshop is a great way to create pictures even from scratch.

Adobe Image Ready [ Photoshop Animation ] hence the name, is better equipped for animation rather than painting (you can still do reasonable graphics even without photoshop - take a look at the banner above that i submitted, that was made 100% in image ready)

you can download a trial version for photoshop CS from here:

http://www.adobe.com/products/tryadobe/main.jsp - Adobe Photoshop 8.0 (CS) Tryout for MacOS - 250MB

I cant find the image ready addon's.. but they are most likely in those downloads above... not sure though.

Image Ready is also a great way for web-site building (your own sites ofcourse) because you can make your images such as tables, navigation bars, interfaces etc then slice up the pieces and easily code them in through html/whichever other format.. you can also pre-program the sliced pieces if they contain buttons, roll-over text/buttons for example, its mainly automatic, real great stuff - a must try.

Theres a thread in this forum that describes just that. - http://forums.xisto.com/topic/79667-topic/?findpost=1064272921 by jcguy

I really havent used any other programs except for macromedia flash (which im very nub at still =p ) so if you need any help with above, just ask your questions and ill try to answer them.

By the way, wizzywig, that looks quite nice, good for black backgrounds (such as your patriot website)

but perhaps.. i dont think you shouldve needed to spend 1 and a half hours for that =/..

Adobe Photoshop is very nice for about any graphics design.

But Adobe Photoshop can ber very difficult for first-time users, and it takes quite long to learn for beginners. It has so many functions and uses that can be quite overwhelming in the beginning. But I guess once you got the hang of it, PS can be very useful. It's regarded as the best graphics design program by professionals.
