nyouremyperfect10 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2013 Why is it bad not to believe in God? Is it because they lack "morals"? Well who even defines morals? Morals don't even exist (though most theists aren't supposed to believe that). Is there a reason specifically why it's "bad" to be an atheist?
sheepdog 10 Report post Posted December 23, 2013 Now this could be an interesting topic! I would venture to say if you are atheist you would say it is not bad. However, if you believe in pretty much any organized religion, be it Christian or Muslim or what ever, that religion teaches you that you will rot in hell or be left to eternal damnation if you don't believe in God. If you do not have a specific religion, I have no idea who would impress upon your their morals? I don't know much about atheists. Is there an atheist organization that actually defines the parameters of being atheist? Do they believe in any morals at all or do they follow basic Christian morals, only claim them to be from someone other than God? I actually have no idea. One thing I do know of atheists. They may have some moral code, but they do not believe in live and let live, or practice any type of tolerance. In some ways atheists are more zealots than your loudest bible thumping Baptist. They are loud and adamant in their crusades against people of religion. Despite the fact that they are by far a minority of the population, they make it their religion to force other religions to cease to exist. They protest any and all references in public to God or any thing Christian, especially the cross. The moral question comes up again with their serious problem with any public display of the 10 commandments. Now I wouldn't have so much of a problem with that as long as their beliefs allowed them to follow the 10 commandment's, just not believe they came from God. They have been fighting for years to have crosses taken down at war memorials across the country. In some ways, Atheists are just another religion to my way of thinking. sheepdog 10 Report post Posted December 25, 2013 Your excused. With a name like yours I would of expected you to be atheist. Just kidding. And before you get a chance to, I'll say with a name like sheepdog you could expect me to be a b-tch, but most of the time I'm not. Sometimes I am though. You can't lump everyone in a group of people and say they are all that way. It just isn't so. There are good and bad people in all types. But sadly, it's the loud and vocal and generally obnoxious members of each group that get all the attention and therefore stand out to the general public as what that group of people are typically like. Weather they are or not. Right or wrong, it's just the way things work. So no bad feelings to you at all. Glad you brought this up, now I can say I know at least one cool atheist. Merry Christmas to you and yours too!

k_nitin_r 8 Report post Posted January 4, 2014 In some ways, Atheists are just another religion to my way of thinking. The way you describe atheists makes me picture an organized crime group, perhaps even biker gangs that collect protection payouts from local stores (remember the one that attacked a Cadillac?). Some people do believe in the goodness of human existence but don't want to state that there is a God (atheists with a belief in karma?). Some state that God is just a person like us and we can become God through meditation or some other practices (the 'Advaita' philosophy). As you've suggested, this is just another kind of religion - one that doesn't have a God.
sheepdog 10 Report post Posted January 4, 2014 Yes, I agree completely atheism is really just another religion. I think including biker gangs as religious groups might be a bit of a stretch, but then again, I'm sure they have their own code of conduct so perhaps they could be included too. Atheism is not a religion it is denying that religion is true and there is no god, and heaven or that rubbish, (I am not trying to deny others their believes i am just stating what an athiest is) and my username is from Omen (Damien) it used to be C4L but i changed to my facebook username. i am not a big horror movie fan but i do like the omen. sheepdog 10 Report post Posted January 5, 2014 Well, I've always felt that religion is what your beliefs are. And if you believe there is no God, wouldn't that qualify as a belief? Which would make it a religion. Gets kind of tricky doesn't it? Yes, I agree Omen was a pretty darn good movie. I have to agree too, I'm not too big of a fan of actual Horror movies, but am a big science fiction freak. Got to see some of my old favorites over the holidays on our new big screen TV, really loved that! Star Wars of course. And the Lord of the Rings series. The graphics on Lord of the Rings is fantastic on any size screen, but the big new one really brings it out, it's just fantastic.
demonboy1990 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2014 SD I am a big movie buff just do not like Horror movies though (have to always hide my face) never have, there is some horror movies i like because of who is in them not for the movie, we started watching horror movies when we where very young i just never got to like the genre, as for you liking science fiction i like back to the future (which is in science fiction genre) and my favourite tv programs are charmed, medium and Ghost Whisperer, Angel and Buffy which are all science fiction, i like movies and tv shows but they never fit into a genre, i have seen Lord of the rings But it was not as good as Harry Potter if you like Science fiction try the Game of Thrones (NBC But shot in Belfast) i have seen it once it seemed good but not my sort of thing, as for the subject of this topic, Atheism is not a religion it is a belief and it is the rejection of religion (including the beliefs thereof)
sheepdog 10 Report post Posted January 30, 2014 It would be really hard for me to choose between the Harry Potter movies and the Lord of the Rings series. The computer graphics in the scenery in the Lord of the Rings is just fabulous, and the animal graphics on the Harry Potter movies is just the best I have ever seen anywhere. That scene looks so real where the Phoenix drops a tear into Harry's basilisk wound I'd swear it was a real bird. Every feather is perfect right down to the glisten in it's eye. Medium was another of my favorite shows. Partially due to the fact that aside from her physic abilities they were a completely normal American family. Kind of nice to see people in shows that are normal looking and not over done surgically altered, silicon stuffed super model types. I kind of wish that show was still on. I haven't even seen it in reruns. Ghost Whisperer is another favorite of mine, I still catch reruns of it sometimes in the afternoons. I only saw a couple episodes of Game of Thrones, and for some reason could never pick up on the story line so I lost interest in it. Maybe if I had seen it from the beginning or something. demonboy1990 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2014 well i have all the seasons of ghost whisperer (got them last christmas) i have all the seasons of medium (completed collecting them earlier last year) and i like the shows more for the family caractars you get used to them just wish they would stop getting canceled. i never really take any notice of the CGI In movies i never really got into Game a Thrones it was not my cup of tea (my thing)
sheepdog 10 Report post Posted January 31, 2014 The only thing I have the whole series of is the original Star Trek. I have a few seasons of Smallville, that's about it. I would love to have the entire set of Star trek Voyager, and also the entire Farescape series. I thought about buying the Farscape series this year for myself for Christmas, they had a special collectors edition out for the 15th year anniversary that had a lot of bonus footage in it, but I just never got around to doing it.
