your site design is horrible, but your portfolio is really good. You sure have talent with photoshop! ..you just need to apply it to webskills. Frames are a thing of the past, move on!

I'm still developing my website which was only using html and css until today and now I'm develping it on PHP... I have to change my css yet but I'm going to become a designer so I already have some projects which I have already done on it.

I must aree with this. I hpe you don't mind some constructive critisim, but there are defeinetly some, er, not so good aspects of your site.

 

a) putting the two "Enter ->" around your slpash page is not very inviting, better yet, you should have something less "agressive" and make a very simple and blank page with a simple little tahoma font hyperlink for the splash page

 

as ill has said, Frames are indeed a thing of the past, the frames on your site makes everything look very uninviting, and limits the amount of "page" the viewer can see. I highly recommend that you remove the frames.

 

c) having the stars and the snow banner on the top and bottom of the site really distracts your viewiers from your actual content, so removing those would make your content more visible.

 

d) I strongly suggest that you use PHP to do most of the work in your website, such as using a PHP contact form instead of a "mailto:blahblah@Xisto.com" link, and you can automate your news section using a simple news manager such as CuteNews - @ http://cutephp.com/, also, you may want to use a PHP forum, such as http://www.myphp.ws/, https://www.phpbb.com/, http://www.phorum.com/, or another tpye of PHP disscuision board. The current brave net one is filled to the limit in advertisements, and lacks a lot of feaures that you can get in other forums, and also loads alot slower, basiaclly, whatever bravenet offers, they fill it with ads, but if you use PHP scripts, you can do anything with it

 

That said, I think your photoshop skills are beyond amazing, (i can't do much with it ). Your artwork is sure to capture someone's eye.

Thankyou all for your comments, maybe the web design wasn't great....Im not as experienced with html as with photoshop and digital art and probably tried to over compensate.I am going to start work as soon as possible on a new site, however I want to avoid templates as I want to create something that reflects the nature of my artwork.Graeme

you did those graphics with photo shop? Man, those are really good. The only comment I have is to change the layout, it looks really boring and simple. Sorry, I don't have a web site that's realted to your subject T__T

The website has already been commented on so I shouldn't have to worry about that.

Reccomendation though: Create the entire site in photoshop, then slice it, save for web. (Or export to imageready, etc.)

As far as the portfolio, I see potential, but the images lack something. What I think I see is great ideas that aren't expressed as well as you want them too or not as well as they could be. The ideas for some of the images are excellent, but I just don't like how they look right now. For example, on your image "Mindscape," I love the idea but can't stand how it was done. The typography isn't done well at all, which is usually the most important part of an image with text in it. The way that the 2d images were combined with the 3d wireframes messes with the whole image.

Of course, it appears that you painted parts of the images, if not all, which is something I cannot do and probably will never do.

EDIT: Oh, yeah, I also don't like the idea of your use of textures the way you use them, such as in the image "Mirror Mirror." It gives a look to the mage that is too, I don't know, basic.

Very creative. Unfortunately, also very slow to load for us country bumkins with no DSL and dialup slowere than Christmas. I tried to check the size of your images and got your copyright notice, instead. VERY SMART!

 

I know it's a difficult choice to compromise on the quality of your images, but the Photoshop, "Save for Web" option can reduce the file size without too much loss of quality. If you don't want to do that, maybe you could put something simpler and quicker on your home page, so everyone can get a taste of your work, then link to the slower stuff from there--after you've got us hooked.

You can quote on more than one post by clicking on the "quote" button for each post you want to comment on. Plus, I got around the simple little javascript thing easily, and a 500x500 image was 200kb. Not too bad, really, but not great.
