Mich 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2010 When I was working in the office at a hospital in our small community near Bear Lake, Michigan I came to know one of the doctors there, Dr. Graham. He made a trip out to Las Vegas, Nevada, to visit his son. When he returned, he looked me up to ask me, ?Guess who I met in Las Vegas?? Having no idea I just shrugged my shoulders. I mean, we didn?t know each other on a personal level, so who could he have seen there that was someone we knew in common. I almost fell over when he said, ?Your father.? My father lived in Sacramento, California and unbeknown to me he had evidently been visiting Las Vegas at the same time. How did they meet? Well, out of all the casinos in Las Vegas they had happened to pick the same one. Not only that, they sat down at slot machines right next to each other. They struck up a conversation which eventually led to where they were from and when the Dr. Graham told him Michigan, that led to my father telling him he had a daughter living in Michigan, then the town, which of course Dr. Graham recognized. It is a small enough community that Dr. Graham ventured to ask my name, which bowled him over since he knew me from the hospital. Now I ask you folks, is this a small world? What were the odds of my father and Dr. Graham, having no idea who one another were, living 2500 miles apart, sitting down at adjacent slot machines in a town the size of Las Vegas? deadmad7 4 Report post Posted October 10, 2010 Woah, thats pretty weird and awesome at the same time. I think it is just a little coincidence though, there is no way that it could have happened otherwise. They could have picked the same city, casino and same game/slot area because they have similar interests. I think you are the middle point, maybe you hang around people who have a certain kind of interests and so they have a "high" chance that they might might. nice story, i wonder how they felt lol
web_designer 7 Report post Posted October 11, 2010 very interesting story mich, thanks for sharing this with us. and i must say that these kinds of coincidence should be happening in this big world. because we live in a big world but our thoughts and interests may crossed with others. just like your father and the doctor how they thought to go to las vegas in these days of the year, picking the same hotel and playing the same game. and of course being friendly enough to chat with each other . so we are as different people in this big world, we share the same mentality and ways of thinking sometimes. and when our roads cross with each other, this may lead to new beginnings who know?? mahesh2k 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2010 That happens many time ya know. Many people who got married remember similar type of coincidence and then laugh for the rest of life. I know that because my sister had such coincidence before marriage. It's not the odds though, it just happens with some game of probability. Those who live in small city and town knows this type of coincidences.
DodgyPhil 1 Report post Posted October 11, 2010 That is pretty coincidental, but maybe not as strange. Las Vegas is quite a hotspot (or so I hear) and unless both your father and Dr.Graham were compulsive gamblers who knew casinos like the back of their hands, it's likely they just made their way from the airport (or bus depot, I don't know how people travel in America, seeing as Nevada is twice the size of my country) to the nearest club and sat by the newbie slot machines. ;)But the actual talking to each other part is pretty trippy. sheepdog 10 Report post Posted November 16, 2010 Without a doubt, that is one heck of a coincidence! I wonder if even the gamblers in Vegas could figure the odds of that one!Neat story!
sheepdog 10 Report post Posted November 25, 2010 Ok, now for a double coincidence! The very next day after you posted this one I had a weird one. This past year the Missouri Department of Agriculture came up with a new wrinkle for our kennel licencing requirnments. We had to get a tax number. Now the department of revenue wouldn't even give you an exempt statement unless you registered. (there's some government BS for you, your exempt from it but you have to get it anyway, but i digress) After stalling as long as I could and not being able to figure out a way around this one, I finally got mine. Jumped threw all the hoopes and finally months after my kennel licence had been renewed I finally got the tax licence number. And then I promptly lost it. Hunted for months for it. Finally gave up, since so many months had passed and the issue hadn't come back up since I don't even know if I'll be in business next year I just blew it off. Well, I was cleaning up the house that day, and low and behold, after all those months, I finally found the stupid letter from the Department of Revenue with my tax number. And believe it or not, it wasn't 30 minutes after I found it I got a call from the Missouri Department of Agriculture wanting my tax number!!!! Weird!
