k_nitin_r 8 Report post Posted September 5, 2010 Hi!I have been creating some unconventional web designs, just to step away from the norm and to think outside the box.I would like to have some comments on a web design I created a couple of months ago:http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/Please don't hold back on negative feedback - it would be treated as constructive criticism :-)
God-Of-Earth 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2010 Hi, I?m not too sure what you classing as unconventional, or your background and experience in web design and graphics. The site and the templates on your site look very plain to me. The main idea of most sites is advisement and a plain site won?t do this very well. More colours and more extensive graphical design would be the first thing id suggest. However maybe the points im highlighting are exactly why you?re saying it?s unconventional. If it is I don?t think the sites look as professional as perhaps they could do. Sorry if it looks like i'm been very negative. It's just not the type of site id be attracted to. k_nitin_r 8 Report post Posted September 6, 2010 Hi!Thank you for your feedback.I figured the half-sized (okay, so it's slightly more than half) vertical design would be a departure from the norms of the Internet. I used the space below to put up some designs. I probably need to put together some more vector illustrations to get the design to work, along with some shading. I initially put the page together to load quickly, though I made a compromise while adding the designs at the bottom of the page. I will have a second go at putting together the website soon.BTW, what software did you use to create your avatar image and signature?
web_designer 7 Report post Posted September 6, 2010 hi k_nitin_r,i checked your site and i think it is simple and need more work if you want it to be a unconventional web designs. like you can add a cool header, well a site without a header could be a unconventional web designs but i think it needs a fancy one. elegant and attractive. also you could made the earth image in flash and make it roll, or you can do some tricks in your menu bar to make it more attractive. about the templates you have, i think the first and second ones are a little different than the usual we see in the net. but the others are not, they are so plain. and you can fix them by adding some avatars and shadows, or adding images here and there in the background. the over all designs are good but needs more work, and i know you can fix them. good luck. k_nitin_r 8 Report post Posted September 7, 2010 @web_designer, god-of-earthHi!Thank you for your feedback. It's much appreciated.I'll have another go at designing the site. I'll post back as soon as it's done and uploaded.BTW, the mini-portfolio at the bottom of the website aren't real websites. They're Photoshop/Illustrator mockups that I used as placeholders for actual portfolio websites. I'm primarily a web developer and not a web designer, though I do hope to catch up on the designing skills to put together a decent web design... nothing too flashy, just a corporate-looking website. k_nitin_r 8 Report post Posted September 18, 2010 Hi!I've put up another design for the website. This time, I'm using a WordPress backend and have my design turned into a WordPress theme. Check it out and post your comments:http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/The older version of the site, for comparison, is at:http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/There are still a couple of things that need refinement, but I believe it's a step in the right direction from where I was a week ago. legendary112 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2010 I think unconventional is a big term.I see nothing that differentiates it so much from millions of other sites on the web today.however you did try something a bit simpler and left it looking bland.i'd advise you to add some colour and content...make it appealing. it looks a tad too blank right now but nice work. i like the fact you're pushing yourself to produce something amazing and unique.good luck with that matecheers! web_designer 7 Report post Posted October 23, 2010 i must say, i like it more now. it looks more professional. but also needs more work. for example try adding a different hover color for buttons in your menu, like light gray, and of course with hover you should change the font color too. because the underline link in menu bar is kinda old effect, but it is up to you.also try to make the read more button in a different shade when the mouse cross over it, or add a transparency to it using opacity. and you can do all those using CSS with simple code lines, and i do believe it will give a life to your site. also you can use many images instead of one and add a simple effects to them.because usually, the site who has a big image in the home page a little of text, it should have a fancy effects for the images.so, i do think you did a good job till now, but needs more. keep on trying and your site will be great, and keep us informed. good luck. mahesh2k 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2010 I agree this design looks simple and more professional than previous website. It's simple and at it goes to the point where reader wants to know things about the site. Only suggestion that i want to see is that it should have a section called "portfolio". This portfolio feature should be different than projects or clients. Portfolio word is catchy and i would like to see your results after adding this page. Atleast this is how most designer sites are around.
