I was able to write decent code in PHP in under a month using the internet and studying other people's code. Your mileage may vary.Look around and see what you can find. Using an IDE with code completion like Netbeans also helps when you can't remember what all the arguments are to a certain function. Use the PHP documentation too. It can be a little confusing at times (and a lot confusing at others), but you can find lots of good examples and advice in the notes people post at the bottom of the pages.
