Fractured.Logic 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 So this was brought up in the Shoutbox, and I will protect the name of the originator until he wishes to identify himself. In the meanwhile, I thought that the issue should still be discussed, for everyone's educational sake. Topic: Linking to Warez My standpoint is that I would expect the Trap to be rather hesitant about linking to any warez, not only for legal ramifications, but also for the prolific tendency to be exposed to various nasty viruses. However, being that I am still, technically, a newbie... I did not feel comfortable stating one way or the other on this issue. Obviously, I am no stranger to the... *cough*... acquisition of certain software by... *cough*... alternative means (darn dry throat ). And, I'd be willing to bet that a large percentage of people involved with the Trap are even-better-informed on the nature of these things. So what is the Trap's view on warez, and the linkage thereof? Things to consider in your reply: -Legal issues...? -Realistic possibilities to compromise the Shell...? -Other consequences...? -Opinion of warez, and the people who crack the proverbial eggs...? -GONG- Let the debate begin! jlhaslip 4 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 If you read the Xisto Readme file, Item #6 under the Terms of Service for the Forums, it clearly states that "illegal" material shall not be presented on the Forum. This would also deal with Warez sites or links to Warez sites, or links to Warez downloads. Links to adult content, pages with links to adult content, near adult content (including model and swimsuit sites), or messages describing anything against the law will be removed as soon as possible. Any discussion of those are off topic. And being a n00bie has nothing to do with whether your opinion matters any more or less than the more experienced users. The Terms of Service for the Forums applies to all users. The Acceptable Use Policy is more geared towards the use of the Web Hosting, but the same philosophy applies there. This is Shared Hosting, so any activities outside the Law is subject to penalty which would include shutting down the Server, so please be careful about posting any links to 'questionable' material, or Hosting any of the Warez you *may* find laying around. The users here are (overall) very web savvy. The Members know which links are 'questionable' and it is their duty to maintain a clean Forum site by using the Report button. If you have any concerns, let the Mod Team know abut the doubtful links and we will investigate them further, applying the guidelines found in the Xisto Readme to the Forum's advantage, and that includes the advantage of each and every user here, new or old.I hope this explains things well enough for you and others to understand why the Mods and Admins are so diligent about protecting the Forum content. We use the Hosting as well, and really don't need the Server off the radar.Any questions about any postings or shouts should be brought to the attention of tha Moderators immediately. Let us deal with the Members involved. Do not confront them directly. That is not good for a cohesive community. We get paid (sort of) to do that on your behalf (sort of).Thanks.*edit*And that Virus thing??? I run Linux, so bring it on...
Fractured.Logic 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 Yahr!I knew that niggling thought that I'd seen something somewhere wasn't for naught.I hope you aren't mad at me for bringing this up, and please know that I personally had no involvement other than to witness the question and decide that it needed to be clarified for the sakes of everyone involved. Ash-Bash 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2009 Well what a shame, I made a ticket about this (Now you all knows its me) and it took Xisto - Support 3 days to reply (So much for fast support) Anyway they was saying no to hosting warez on there servers and linking. I did offer to advertise them as my site would be really popular however they still said No.Ah well not much I can't do about that.-Ash.
-Sky- 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2009 Well obviously they would say no Ash. It's against the Terms of Service of Xisto. No warez is allowed, and for that matter discussion/links to it should also be prohibited to ensure that there is no discussion about it being bought up. Just my opinion, I think Xisto's support team are a little slow, however! they have a lot of work to do other then stay on the Support Tickets 27/4.
