z3r0 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2009 (edited) Hey so look im sorry i know this is probably in the wrong section but of all the forums i have looked into this server seems to be the most helpfull and enagaging community. so hopefully someone will be able to help me here=)ok so im making a runescape private server. ive got a friend who made 5 grand. yes 5 grand! off his server in a month. although the money is attracting i really want to establish a good community. as im sure many of you dont know runescape private servers are very popular. but i have alot of questions and hopefully someone here can answer alot of them. i dont want you to hold my hand but i will need alot of help... ok so here are my questionsi want to use a dedicated server that i would pay to have it hosted on. how exactly would that work? would i have to install java, the source, and stuff onto the computer or what? and how much bandwith a month would i need?all of these questions i hope you can answer. and yes im aware a server would cost around 99$ a month. just i need someone to explain how exactly a server is used and all a good one to choose considering what im doing.also i wanna use a vbullitin (yes i know they are not cheap) and if you look at hydrascape.com they gut there ties in the forum banning system to in-game as well as how many players are on at a time. can you tell me how to do that as well? BuffaloHelp 24 Report post Posted May 6, 2009 A private server can cost any price depending on your needs. Bandwidth, disk space, PHP, ASP, java all that and more are usually included when you purchase a private server (you will choose either PHP or ASP not both). If you're going to run vbulletin you might want to choose Linux based server rather than Windows based server.Assuming you have permission to run your own private runescape server, disk space and bandwidth needed to run are determined by how many people/members are loging in. Start with middle of the class and have the option to upgrade. Hosting sellers are glad to upgrade your service as long as you can meet the monthly or yearly price. Be sure that you can have steady members paying for the service you provide. Any hosting provider will be glad to help you set up basic and some advance programs to help you run a private server. Before you purchase any you can contact them for details on how to get your server set in order to run your own private server.
