Google Hosting?

Recommended Posts

It would be cool if Google could provide something a little better than Geocities. That would be the ultimate. Google will become very popular because of that. I think Google has a future in web hosting. The only issue is keeping Google alive. With 1 GB e-mail, a serch engine and many other features, will Google colapse out of over-service?Just my 2 cents. -ShackmanPS: Xisto is still the best web host.

Google might just be the down fall if they have free web hosting. Imagine all those people upload small video clips and songs onto their own server on google and just using up the bandwith so quick. If people are using gmail as storage why not googles own space tooo. I think google would want advertising and they'll make good money because other companies pay them to put their ad and it can appear on their users websites.

There is no such thing as a free lunch, so Google will have to place ads in order to finance this, and that's one minus. In order to keep up with millions of users, that will obviously register to get their free hosting, Google would have to get a great number of web servers. When they offered the 1GB Gmail mailbox, they knew that only a few people would use up this space, but the others (like me, with a poor internet connection) have only 10MB (1%) of space used up! If they would offer free web hosting, it would be an embarrassment to offer e.g. 50mb of space, so they would go for the big numbers! This web space will be very tempting, so almost every hosting account will be filled up with audio & video material, warez, porn etc. Google will have a hard time to control their users...Why would they jump into this hole?

If I could choose between a google, new, one gb webhosting or Xisto, supportive, easy-to-use webhosting, I would go with Xisto. I am a very big supporter of google, i've never said anything bad about them. I 100% support thier search engine and other products such as Desktop Search. I just don't think google would work out as a free webhosting provider. I also think alot of people would stick with payed webbhosting instead of switching to google free.

I would choose google if it is free, because it will have more space, and I don't have to post to extend my hosting credits. And I thing google has a little more reputation and will probably last a little longer.

Face it, we don't know when will Xisto be closed, or bought, or become collecting fees, it could happen any day.

Is that a mistake? Maybe...

Google Watch do shows that Google could be dangerous... And I completely believe what the site claimed. Face it, nearly every enterprises do many evil things... Google, Yahoo!, Disney, McDonald's, Microsoft...

if google can offer 1gb gmail service, it can also offer web hosting service, with great feature, for free.

unlike email services, now the market of webhosting is so divided and nobody really dominates, there are so many small hosting business. imagine google provide a free hosting service, say 1gt space, how long will it take before google takes over this business?

and it makes sense for google to provide such services, indeed google will be able to gain ultamate access to numerous web servers.

I think that's a great idea. They have probably already thought of it though. Maybe there in the process of doing it now for all we know :P

That would be a great way for them to advertise too...even though they are EVERYWHERE now!

That would be cool...having your site hosted by Google."http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ don't know why, but that amuses me. I don't think the bandwith would be good, though. Having the whole search engine with your site..I don't know.

Google Should change is blooger service and make it into web hosting. There blogger service has no advertising on it now however it did when it first came out.

This is what I was looking for in a host

Free

Large Storage

PHP

Email

Great Add-ons

friendly support

tools

And Site Stats

And Guess what I get that already.

Thanks

Yeah, I dont get why so many people keep using blogs... Make your own site, be your own boss, create it the way you want, and just have fun doing so!

The things I look for in a webhost:

Free

Reasonable Storage

Reasonable Bandwith

PHP and MySQL

Email

Cpanel and fantastico

good community

good support

friendly support

Nah, even if google made its own free webhosting service, it wouldnt make any difference. Plus I think that Xisto has pretty much dominated the FREE webhosting business which includes unlimited of practicaly everything. Plus I dont think google would let you have good things like cpanel and php and mysql, stuff like that and google would make there own control panel which would prolly be hard to use. Just like every other place. :P

I dont think they will give that kind of urls, because google puts their services on sub domains too... Maybe something yourname.web.google.com or they might put them on a new domain or something (Yourname.Googlehost.com or something :S )
