The G8 Summit And The True Problems Of The World! They couldnt care less...

As you probably have heard these days the G-8 summit is taking place in Toyako, Japan. I am not an anti-globalisation activist, but there is no way you can't hate them after this meeting (meetings). They discussed some very important world issues like the global warming, how to decrease CO2 emissions and the pressing problem of increasing food costs which translates in a global food crisis. Regarding the first subjects, just as they do every G-8 summit, they agreed to decrease C02 emissions by half by 2050. It's not like it's too little, much too late... As for the food crisis... they tried to resolve the issue over an 8-course dinner prepared by 25 chefs. There is an ad on Animal Planet regarding a Buddhist monastery where the monks are raising tigers, but it perfectly suits the G-8 summit... "the problems of the world never reach this tranquil place". It is beyond words what they did... discuss food crisis while they were eating 24 different lavish dishes! Dominic Nutt of Britain's Save the Children said

It is deeply hypocritical that they should be lavishing course after course on world leaders when there is a food crisis and millions cannot afford a decent meal to eat.

Isn't he perfectly right? And it's not only the dinner but the whole summit is under the "lavish" term... The G-8 summit has as cost a total of 283 million Ł. Yes! You have read that correct. 283 million Ł! SHAME ON THEM!

 

It is all in keeping with a summit that has cost a total of 60 billion yen (Ł283 million) - enough to have bought 100 million mosquito nets to save Africans from catching malaria - and that frequently seems at odds with the Japanese hosts’ professed theme of ecology and environmentalism.

 

 

The International Media Centre, which will be dismantled after the summit, was purpose-built at a cost of Ł24 million: a total of Ł8 million a day.

 

Fibreoptic cables for the press centre have cost a further Ł43 million. The Japanese Government has completely refurbished the rooms, lawns and carpets of the Windsor Hotel, where the leaders are meeting, and resurfaced much of the perfectly serviceable 100km (60mile) road to the airport.

 

The public have been kept at least 30 miles from the hotel, which is perched on the top of a mountain overlooking a beautiful volcanic lake. It is protected by 20,000 police officers, air force planes fly regular patrols and coastguard and naval ships are on standby in the nearby bay.

 

Chefs have been given carte blanche to spend as much as they like on their menus, which yesterday had the theme of Hokkaido, Blessings of the Earth and the Sea, after the northernmost Japanese island where the summit is being held.

 

A menu issued yesterday proudly boasted that the chefs “know everything that there is to know about food in Hokkaido”. It added: “The three specialists will make the best of Hokkaido’s natural blessings, supported by higher quality ingredients, more natural ingredients and the soil with which to enjoy them.”

 

Yesterday’s dishes were prepared by Katsuhiro Nakamura, the first Japanese to win a Michelin star, who was brought out of retirement for the summit. He was hired as the “grand chef” by the Windsor Hotel, where the Presidential Suite costs Ł7,000 a night.

Once again... SHAME ON THEM! The G-8 summit is only for image... no real problems do get solved! They can't care less about hunger, AIDS or global warming as long as they have never ever felt them for one single day. Things like this make you loose faith in the human kind. How easy we care ignore the suffering of our own kind

Hey Pal, Thanx for suc an eye openner. That was very thoughtfull of you. I respect people who think like you although I think it's something everyone know: HUMANS ARE SELFISH! Politicians are no ecception. They really don't care about nothing. There are a few like AL Gore and Mandela who will go out of their way to do something that benefits the masses. Al Gore is one of the few politicians I know who actually care about the environment and not talk about it when they think that's what we want to hear.Once again thanks very much! What really annoys me the most is not the fact that they ate those lavishing plates, but they had the guts to say that they were actually talking about the global food crisis. It is as if they slapped all of us.... I'm sure that as they spoke and ate those plates, a few hundred people in Africa died of hunger. It is beyond understanding what they did! What a huge difference would have made 238 million pounds for some people that don't eat for days.

There are times when I go to the supermarket and I get my trolley full and I stop for a moment and think.... Oh my God somebody is suffering right now because of hunger and I am enjoying such luxury. Maybe it's not much, but I fell ashamed that we enjoy so much while others enjoy so little

 

They say Africa is mostly third world countries, but I wonder ... in our so called civilization, where did we loose the value of human life? Where did we loose the value of helping someone not to enjoy life but (at least) having a normal life. So I wonder what countries are really the third world ones? The G-8 is a good way to start...

Every time I read about these global crisis I get seriously depressed. Not because there are problems in the world, there always were and always will be, but because people who can make a difference are too freaking retarded to do it. Enormous sums of money are being spent on development of weapons while people are dying due to lack of food and drinking water. I know this might sound naive, but imagine how many problems could be solved if all money invested into weapon research, by all countries, for just one year were to be used for helping those in need.And what are politicians thinking when they refuse to implement Kyoto agreement? Do they think their children would not suffer when everything goes to hell? Blah...

Come on, it is like when celebrities tour the world on their privat jet and then talks to us about how important it is to save the enviroment. They buy a lot of things they really do not need and things like that. They all want everyone else to change yet still do the things they have always done. There must be an easier way for all these people to talk and discuss with eachother. Many companies has started to do video conferences, but I suppose they would never try that. I agree with a lot of the things that have been said above. They have weird priorities, they use their money wrong and they only make things worse. If they had actually done something about it then it would be better, but they just talk and talk and get nothing done. Even if they find a solution of a problem they never seem to do anything about that either.Some people are just talk and no action. It is annoying, and I can not believe how they can do that! And what I think is even more silly is when they are trying to find a solution to a problem, and then they will not let the country that actually need the help to say something about it. Okey, maybe you did not understand it but I just do not get it. We live in a weird world.

I'm touched when you guys remember Africa like that. May God bless for you for being so....(I don't know a word that can best describe what I think you are). It used to hurt me to see people look at us like that(like bergers wo can't do anything until they get handouts) but I tought myself to accept things as they are. We are poor! And we can't count on anyone to do something about it because

people who can make a difference are too freaking retarded to do it

Those who want to change things can not do anything significant.

And what I think is even more silly is when they are trying to find a solution to a problem, and then they will not let the country that actually need the help to say something about it.

That's some deep thinking there.

As I don't want to open another topic on the same global problem I shall state my disappointment here... Just yesterday I saw a news report on the way the American consumer throws away 275 kg of perfectly good food every year. I can't say I'm an American or that I don't waste food but 275 kg is a huge amount. And if that still doesn't sound much well those 275 kg means 14% of all food purchases of a household. And it gets worse 15% of that includes products that are still within their expiration date but that have never been opened. Such a huge waste of food I just can't stop thinking while someone throws perfectly good food to the garbage someone half around the world suffers from hunger and will eventually die from it. While we have the luxury of being picky about the food we eat I'm sure that somebody our there would eat anything and be happy about it. I know it's hard to do a difference but maybe if we even think about it a morale barrier shall rise next time we throw something in the garbage. As an offtopic I have also heard some good news. Ford has registered enormous losses mainly because of its big car (SUV, ...) division. They are reorientating to small efficient, green cars. The American cars, just as the American consumer is extremely inefficient. When somebody thinks of American cars you picture as SUV. A gas monster will no practical advantages over a smaller more efficient car. But it seems that little by little the oil prices change this lifestyle.
