Www Vs. Public_html [resolved]

Recommended Posts

I didn't know where to post this..... this category seemed about as good a fit as there was.on most webservers (my trap 17 one included), there is a public_html folder and a www folder, anything uploaded into one also gets put in the other.so i am wondering what is the point of both of these folders?can someone tell me why each one exists?

www is a shortcut to public_html.So, you are actually working with public_html only and there is only one folder.

The only reason the have the WWW folder is because people that have used other hosting services might be used to that, and not know what public_html is. Since it's just a shortcut, like Opaque said, it saves space and confusion for the new users.
