Question About Adding Message Board To Site Using mysql?

Recommended Posts

NO, MYSQL is not a 'messageboard'. It is used to store data, like messages, in a filesystem (of sorts). The messageboard can use MYSQL to keep track of information about your meassageboard though. Most Forum softwares use some sort of database to keep track of its members and all the info relating to the messageboard.search: database mysql for more information. Or use the search feature on the Xisto.

I am not sure what you mean by 'message board', but are you looking for a 'chat' or 'shoutbox'?

I have a script that I use as an email Contact Form that could be used to post those messages onto a page for you.

Sample : http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

It will email you the comments made and then post them to your page, or you can have them posted onto another page if you wish.

Let me know if you need the script and I can make it available as a zip file.

I consider this which I am posting on as a message board. I'd like to have one on my site for my members to use.

Thanks for your help.

I don't want to start a new thread so i'll ask in here as well.

Whenever I use the html editor within the cpanel and I hit enter to start a new paragraph, on the page it shall then come up with a "?". It also does this everywhere on the site that I use a "Ł" sign.

Which makes pages like this look very confusing.

Can you please tell me how to rectify this.

Cheers,
sdt

There are many free message boards out there you can use.

http://phpbb.com - PHPBBhttp://mybboard.net - MYBBhttp://simplemachines.org - SMFhttp://http://www.yabbforum.com/ - YABB

These are some message boards, they are all pretty easy to install. I know PHPBB has a lot of skins you can use as well as SMF. YABB can be installed directly from the Control Panel. On the main page and scroll down to "Add On Scripts" and under bulletin boards is YABB. Hopefully this helps.

As for the symbol problem, I don't think it recognizes the symbol itself so if you want to put in the symbol, £ or £ Then when you save and view the site it'll see £ and replace it with the pound symbol itself. This site will show you more symbols... http://www.ascii.cl/htmlcodes.htm
