You could try and make a website, then put cutenews into that. As it is flat-file, I think there may be some small security holes in the software. Nevertheless, give it a shot. http://www.cutephp.com/

Xisto's host comes with php-Nuke aswell. Try that.

PhpNuke has several security issues. So i don't want to take risk. I was even warned by my Hacker friend, no to use phpNuke, becuse they are the playthings for noob hackers.

Cute News looks like a forum, i need a cms in which I can add news and automatically archived according, to date, month, year. I need more advanced features like site search, recent news,etc.

I am not so sure about Wordpress being a content management system which you can customise to your site. I am using Wordpress for my blog and I believe you have to alter the theme to be able to use it. You can't make a news system using the same layout unless you create a skin which can be used on your main page as well as on your news area.

Try either Joomla! or Drupal. Both are quite well designed. Drupal is extremely secure compared to many other Content Management Systems. And it can be used for News sites as it can automatically publish/unpublish at a set time. Joomla can do the same. They also both support RSS syndication.Try them.

I agree wordpress would be your best bet to for news CMS, or you could look at some tutorials and build one from scratch, of course security would have to be work on them since most tutorials I have seen about news scripts are public.How is cutenews look like a forum?It does for hte most part what your asking besides the search function (which you could add yourself).

When it comes to recommend someone new script or CMS i am the last person here. Well i used Joomla, pmachine, Nucleus... well i started with joomla and i learned a lot. it was difficult for newbie to understand joomla but as you have seen i have managed to get it up and running and even it looked cool. Well it depends on your needs! if you need powerful cms for every day updated with a lot of content i would recommend you joomla, otherwise use one of the blog scripts. not very helpful but sorry that is the best i can do!

I've found a News CMS that is exactly in the way I was expecting, but the only thing that stops me is that it is not free. you can check that News CMS here, http://www.phpcow.com/?c=146

I've also found a few alternative News CMS
* sNews - http://www.snewscms.com/
* PHP News - http://newsphp.sourceforge.net/
* http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

Of this I like the sNews, because i is very small in size only 27KB and also you can use any Web template for this NEWS system. The sNews is Template Independent.

Now I've two options left either go for Wordpress or sNews.

Currently I'm testing both Word press at http://delivi.com/ and sNews at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

If you come across any look alike free version of phpCow please inform me, I'd be very grateful. also provide your valuable suggestions.

Forgive me for asking.....but I'm new to these content management systems. Is it possible to have it so I can just post news/updates for my site and have it publish it (showing date and author and maintain a font style). I dont know if that sounds weird or not. I remember years ago someone helped me out and set up Newsboard (or something like that) and it was a cgi script. All i had to do was fill in the fields and click post and it would automatically update a certain page with what i just wrote. It sounds a little similar to what the OP was askign about. I know it's like a blog.....but without all the extra links and options. Can anyone suggest something for this?

If you go to my current page - http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ (just a temporary test site) - you'll see my updates/content box and how i'd like my updates to be formatted....it's just I don't know how to get it so I can just post updates and also have the updates get archived when their is too many. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Here are a few PHP news scripts that are similar to PHP-Cow:

DGNews

http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

DGNews is small and simple but powered news publishing script. Easy installation, no programing required. But you can still change whatever you want (for advance user). Feature: add unlimited categories, automatic news image thumbnailed, click count, user comment, print view and many others. Include full lay out, but sure, you can modify what you need.

News System

http://winged.info/project/news

Winged news system sports single user account, data is stored in text files, formatting text by BBCode, posts can be filed under multiple categories, custom publishing date, automatically generated archives and RSS feed.

Page News

http://www.philippkindt.de/pagenews/

Pagenews is easy-to install news script and has a comfortable web-based admin area for managing the script. It allows the webmaster to design every detail through its template - based system. It supports an unlimited number of user accounts. Pagenews is Free software, licensed under the GNU GPL.

News Publishing Content Management System 2.3

http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

The JPowered News Publishing Content Management System makes it easy for non-technical users to update and manage articles, press releases, news stories, headlines, and editorials. No HTML or programming knowledge is required, the system enables almost anyone to add a powerful News Content system to any web or intranet site. Overview This system allows you to concentrate on writing your articles without worrying about the underlying HTML or programming code.

========================

I hope that helps you. I would say that wordpress is better than sNews but they are both really poor if you are looking for a good news CMS.
