tdktank59 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2006 (edited) Allright im looking at upgrading because my computer starting to become stupid... (games are lagging when they shouldnt be... heres what i have now so you can base this for what to sujest to me (i want better lol) CPU: intel[r] 2.8 ghz RAM: 1gig motherboard: intel pos motherboard... (it works for what i have now...) Cdrom: DVD R/W 16x i belive 3x 40 gig hard drives (im going to get at least a 120 gig) GPX: Nvidia Geforece 4ti 4600 (im looking at the ATI 1950x crossfire but thats a little out of my budget... but its an awsome card...) Monitor: 21" (i think its huge...) sun monitor Heres what im looking for and what i need the computer to do: Play games seemlessly (no laging and skiping frames in otherwords...), run Maya Unlimited easily, photoshop stuff as well... (MULTI tasking is a must... as much as possible...) heres what im thinking CPU: i dont know which way to go amd or intel... help me decide give me some reasons to choose one or the other Motherboard: A good one that can last me a few upgrades... (cpu has to fit... lol) Ram: 2 gigs MIN... (w/e type motherboard can handle) Harddrive: 120gb MIN 2 terra wanted lol (but what type of hd should i get (reatively cheep too) Graphics Card: Im looking at the ATI 1950x crossfire but thats out of my budget atm so tell me some others and what they are good for (512mb min on the card... id also like a tv in if possible so tell me how to do this... i want to run my ps2/xbox on my computer monitor... and also does this take away from preformance aspects???) Monitor: I want widescreen casue i watch alot of movies... so tell me some good monitors... rember this machine is also a gaming machine so i need a good response time...) Case: something relatively cheep but looks cool (i like black and red) i want a black case with side window with a cool grill lol with red lights around it i need upgrade room for internal drive slots *BLEEP* the floppy drive slot i never use it anymore... and well at least 2 cdrom drive slots... also has to have good ventalation/fan spots i like fans in my case... my current one has 6-8 cant rember and to lazy to look down lol... Powersupply: Enough to cover eveything above + more so id think a 500-700 watt power supply would be nice? but not sure... rember i want to max out the fan slots in the case so evey spot a fan can go there will be a fan there... so plan for that when helping me here Edited September 28, 2006 by tdktank59 (see edit history)
Hadi 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2006 You got some nice specifications, but tell you what a 2 gegabyte ram doesn't go with a 2.8 ghz cpu, because the computer will be too slow. Get atleast an 3.0Ghz cpu if you want a nice handling with ram. I think you should pick intel for motherboard because I tried them once and never had a problem with it. For hddrive I dunno anything about these. Graphics card is the most important part in all your PC to get a gaming PC, most of your budget should be focused on the graphic card. So try getting the ATI 1950x crossfire card it is a piece of art!! I don't know if you can put a PS/2 in that!! The monitor has to be an LCD, I have an LG 24'' but sometimes I think it is small!! Power supply: Don't ask meGood Luck!!
tdktank59 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2006 if you read i was wanting a 3.5+ ghz cpu lol... but i dont know which way to go amd or intel...
Panzer 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2006 Is it is i dont see why your computers lagging. I have a 2Ghz processor and 1gb RAM, a Nvidia GE Force mx400 video card (64mb RAM) and i can play Counter strike and world of warcraft fine. Mayby you should clean up your computer, run system ultilites and remove some programs. If you wanted a faster computer i suggest getting a new Dual Core processor from either AMD or Intel, it doesnt really matter and replace your motherboard. Make sure it supports SATA and DDR2 RAM, replace those and itll be sweet.

kawasu 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2006 did you end up getting this system? i want to know how it all turned out for you. i'm getting a system similar to the specs you provided. how does it go with games? f.e.a.r, quake 4 etc. i'm wanted a system which can last me a few years, except with video cards and the release of dx10, it might make it a waste to spend so much at this point in time. hmm hmm, decisions decisions. why do they have to update hardware so regularly... its good i guess, but irritating for the consumers lol. Galahad 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2006 So? What did you go for? Did you get a new computer? Give us something to drool over :blink:I would have chosen Intel over AMD, since you run 3D software, Intel has slightly more optimized instructions for that sort of stuff... Also don't see the reason your computer is lagging, I have Celeron @ 2.6G with 1G RAM on GeForce4 MX440, and it runs most of the new games smoothly... Ofcourse, it depends on the level of detail you set ;)Anyways, let us know what you bought
kdr_98 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2006 The prices of the CPU are still going down , if you look at the links above and compair them with the current nearly everthing is cheaper. At the moment I should use a Intel Core Duo and not an AMD.They work fine and consume less power then previous Pentium D - series.Intel has at the moment some advantages , maybe in few months it will be AMD again.
