midnitesun 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2006 cyber crimes police in india are considering blocking blogs and certain sites which they believe are being used by terrorists to communicate with each other and it sure is going to create a lot of heat within the blogging community in india,i am not a blogger but i dont think people like al qaeda or their affiliates will be using internet to communicate within themselves because they are intelligent and they know every conversation whether in codes or not can be traced back to them , i just dont think any big fish will use such risks but on the other hand small time al qaeda sympathesizers and wanna wanna be terrorists may have used internet and al qaeda guys are just too smart Notice from mayank: Moved from General Talk to Blogger section & edited the typing mistake in Topic title
LParyani 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2006 And even if they use the internet, it's highly unlikely that they might use blogging services to communicate with each other. Probably to secretly run a service, I'm not sure. And what good will blocking these websites in India do? I'm sure they can find a way around a proxy server without wasting much time. It's probably just a rumour or something. Where did you read about this?

LParyani 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2006 but as you said anybody who wants to visit can access through proxies ,infact the guy giving interview ,a blogger told how to access Haha.Although, I guess this is going to be a temporary issue concerning the Mumbai blasts and how they've gone about increasing security in any possible way. They just want to reduce the chances as much as they can. I don't blame them, although they might upset a huge population using the website and even the content provider as this would be a huge setback on their revenues. Let's see where this heads. mayank 2 Report post Posted July 19, 2006 well, this thing is confirmed by not one but many bloggers from India and has its mention in Blogger Buzz too (https://blogger.googleblog.com/) Well, there are blog hosting sites like blogger, typepad and even geocities...all these free hosting services are blocked in India.Yes, as others have mentioned that people will find out the ways to access them...almost everyone knows the way to access the blog and continue to fight against this ban.Well, people are saying that it may be because of Mumbai Blasts but I think it is not because of Mumbai Blasts at all....Govt. may have imposed the ban most likely because people were using these services against the Govt. and some of its acts...for e.g. Reservation in Higher education. Now I've am not able to acces it.  Well, they will not be able to put a ban on the site, if you host the site on your own space. However, more information can be read at http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/5194172.stm  Well, you can always use anonymouse.org to access any blocked website

shahhitesh10 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2006 The blogger.com and other blogs are working again, and may be other sites also. That was the mistake of internet service providers association of India. The govt. want to block sites as a protective measures against rumours and communial riots..The government told the service providers of India to block only few webpages but they blocked whole sites. So the ban is away and u can enjoy blogging.. Dooga 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2006 I don't think the government should be allowed to choose what its citizens are allowed to view on the internet...As for countries like China, these problems still exist...

lilemi 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2007 If they ban blogging communities its one thing. But how will they stop people of putting up blogs on their own domains?? Someone could start an indian "not-blog" website and eventually they'd get civil disputes over the definition of a blog. Soon they'd be blocking youtube, forums (like Xisto even!) and photo logging websites like imagefiles and photobucket. They're making a big mistake I think.
