bureX 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2006 (edited) As you can see, I have created a blog of my own. And when I say "my own", I'm talking about everything on it (well, maybe a few icons are "stolen" )! The design and the blog script is entirely created by me. My first post on it should explain why I have created my own blog script, instead of using Blogger or Wordpress... I have also created it in such a way to store everything in files on the server, not in a MySQL database... (I was planning to host it on Xisto.com, and because of the MySQL downtimes, I wanted my site to be available even when these downtimes occur... eventually, I have decided to host my blog on a different host and use my Xisto account for something else, but it was too late as I have already finish the script )Well, enough chit-chat, tell me what you think about My BlogAny suggestions are welcome! xJedix 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2006 I like what you did with your blog. It looks very nice. The layout is simple and to the point. I like simple things because I hate sites that are just loaded with tons of stuff and it makes them look messy. Again, your banner is simple but very nice.A couple suggestions:One, The calendar on the front page..... It would be really nice if you could click on the certain day and have it come up with posts from that day. It would be hard, well for sql you would just do a query for that day in the time spot..... but I don't know how you did it, but I don't think it would be that hard. Just a suggestion, I think it would be cool if you did that. And then also, only have links on the days you made posts and the days you didn't, just leave it without a link. Two, I don't know but I don't like the links on the top. I think they just don't fit. I think you would be best off changing it to something a little smoother or use a gloss look if you know how to use photoshop or a program similar. I think the site would overall work better because in my opinion your site is pretty smooth looking and simple, and then you have those buttons which I don't think fit in.Hope it helps, I like what you have done and I like people that make their own stuff instead of using premade sites from someone else.... bureX 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2006 Thanks for the feedback xJedix! The first suggestion is really constructive and I will surely implement it soon! I will also think about the second one... Maybe you've actually got something there...
T100 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2006 I like the layout too. I like the two columns design too. But I think the The font side is a little bit too small by default. And the calendar can be improved so that dates with a post can be highlighted. You don't seem to have a bot protection against spam comments yet. I would suggest that you add some lines of script to protect yourself against spam comments, which sometimes can take up your space at the database and dry up the bandwidth. bureX 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2006 Yeah... I guess I should add a visual confirmation section ("Type the word you see on the picture into this box") in the comment system. Will get back to you as soon as I finish it :(Thanks for the suggestion T100!
Sprnknwn 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2006 I like it. It?s very clear and readable. Just the way every blog should be. In case you didn?t do what xJedix suggest about the calendar (which seems a great idea) I?d put recent on top, bacause I suppose that a blog visitor is more interested in articles than in knowing the day and month in he lives And, now that you have made a blog completely of your own, you should give that impression by replacing that Kenny from South Park image with an image, logotype, etc. that you have created. I think that it won?t be difficult, specially after doing that great job with codes.
bureX 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2006 I have changed the calendar system, if I have made a post on a certain day displayed on the calendar, it will become a link, and clicking it will forward you to a page where all posts made on that same day will be listed.Oh, and Kenny is my favorite South Park character, I have placed a picture of him as my avatar on all forums that I have registered on, so, he actually is my logo, sort of! And now for the comment spamming protection system, coming soon... :(Once again, thank you all for your suggestions!

snlildude87 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2006 I like it. Simple layout + good content = gold Here are some of my suggestions: 1. For the side menu, make the text color a little more prominent. Instead of using light purple for Calendar, Recent, and Archive, try to make it white. 2. The google ads should be embedded inside your content to maximize your revenue. 3. The email feature should have a field for the sender's email address and name as well. I guess the sender can sign his name at the bottom, but just having those fields will make the email look less like spam. 4. Make the margin (CSS) on the pictures a little bit bigger so that they're not so close to the text.
