BuffaloHelp 24 Report post Posted November 4, 2005 TRAP17.com and Xisto.net will always provide you with free subdomain, i.e. yourName.trap17.com or yourName.trap17.netOffering free domain name, a.k.a. TLD (top level domain), is too costly and face it no one will ever offer it for free without strings attached :PHowever, Yahoo is currently offering domain names at $2.99 per year. You might want to give that a shot.
DogEater008 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2005 I'm just wondering since i'm i don't really know about domain setting up alot, but when you buy a domain form yahoo for 2 99 per year. Do the domain will just redirect to your site.. or does it become part of your site.. Like.. my Xisto website address is http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ setting up my domain name.. will it be http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ ... ?ehhh.. don't laugh at me.. it's a stupid question. =P
Spectre 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2005 It depends how you set it up. When using cPanel (Xisto provides free cPanel hosting) you can either park it in your current account so that it is served from the public_html directory (as would be blah1234.trap17.com, meaning they would be the same site), or you can set it up as a new site to be served from a directory underneath public_html (in which case a subdomain wold be set up under your main account) - such as  you.com/ might be served from /public_html/you. This can be done from within cPanel - see Parked and Add-On domains.
sanbeand 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2005 ok.. i just checked the yahoo stuff and well honestly is very cheap (more than buying a chocolate ) so suppose i buy it and what about the email, how does Xisto sends the emails... like me@mysub.trap17.net or if set up a domain at yahoo would be me@mydomain.com?... i saw Xisto offers unlimited accounts (i saw in the main pages but the domain name is solved too? Spectre 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2005 You can set up your own email accounts to be whateveryouwant@yourdomain.com (or @yoursubdomain.trap17.com). You can create as many as you need, and mail.yourdomain.com will resolve to Xisto's mail server (POP and SMTP).
Compute 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2005 wow domains at about 3 bucks, thats pretty cheap.Anyway no i don;t think it redirects...What you do is you buy the domain then you change the name servers tons1.trap17.comns2.trap17.comI think does are the name servers but not really sure.Anyway once you change the nameservers which is very easy to do the option shiould be in your domain control panel.Anyway once you change the nameservers log into your account at Xisto and park your domain name... again very easy to do just click on parked domain. Then it basicly kind of becomes part of your website not just a redirect. As for the emails you can make it you@yourdomain.com just like Spectre said Good luck.
